What brand and weight line are you
using, and exactly what kind of
fishing are you doing?

I used to use TuffLine but the last spool I bought wouldn't come off the reel right.  It seemed to stick.  So I tried PowerPro braided line, also 20 pound test and I love it.  It's all I use now for all my lake fishing.  It's the size of 4# monofilament and obviously way stronger...

If I go salmon fishing, I'm going to buy a spool of 40# PowerPro line.

With COVID and so many people out of work, the lakes are very crowed and I'm thinking I'm going to skip fishing this year.  It used to be I could go fishing in the middle of the week and almost have the lake to myself.

I have not had much success using braided line on my baitcasting reels. The stuff is so thin that it cuts into the line already on the reel while it is being retrieved. The next cast has the embedded line pulling, sticking, nesting. So I stick with mono in the 15-30lb range for my conventional reels. Spinners i use for ultralight lures and the little reels are loaded with 2-4 lb mono.
Fly rods traditional rods and reels for trout WF floating line with a 6-9 ft leader and a 5x tippet.
Tenkara rods for Trout....for my rods that is 12-24 ft lines and a 4-6 ft leaders. Trout get a short 5x tippel.
Alaskan salmon (end of July if I stay healthy): 9ft rod, 8wt WF sinking tip, short 20lb. mono leader.
Pacific rockfish : a Penn 309 with 30lb. Mono.
The mono is pretty much always Stren.

    6 lb. test on a ultralite spinning reel ,since I just bream fish  nowadays  . I probably need to sell all my bass tackle & reels since I dont go to the rivers & lakes anymore .

I'm putting together an ultralight spinning reel setup with 6# test for the same purpose. Getting back to my panfish roots.

That wholly depends on what rods and species.

6lb xl Trilene rigged for walleye jigging
10lb xt Trilene for trolling walleyes
4lb xl panfish in soft water, 2lb on hardwater
40lb powerpro and 30lb floro leader for trolling salmon
80lb powerpro for musky
20lb xt Trilene for catfish
etc

All of my baitcasters have powerpro, if you are having issues with it cutting into your spool, use a heavier line and also put more tension on it when you spool up.  It is far more user friendly than mono as it has no memory.

4 LB test, in usually Berkley trilene, for pan fishing. Just love the way lighter line casts. I have even used 2Lb for panfish.

The lightest SpiderWire made on an ultra lite rig. I quit mono years ago.

I made the switch from mono to spectra braid several years ago.

Most of mine I bought as 1,000 yard  spools on ebay from china for about the same price as a 100 yard spool of spiderwire or similar brands.

I like the fact that it is not ultraviolet sensitive so I don't have to re spool every year.

I love the fact that it tends to lay on top of the water until I take the slack out. It also does not take a "set" on the spool. So no coils of mono sinking into the depths.
I love the fact that it is way more sensitive than mono.

I like the fact that most 20 lb braid is the same diameter as 6 lb mono. So even with smaller reels you can load a lot of line.

I use mine only in spinning reels, I prefer Shimano rear drag but have an assortment.

The only thing I do is if I see the line starting to look "Fuzzy" is spool out line until it no longer looks that way and retie my rig.

I like the fact that with the addition of a 3 foot leader made of light mono or fluorocarbon it works as well at the lake as it does the river.

And when you every now and then hook into a 20+lb carp, who in the river are known for 100+ yard blistering first runs.
I know with braid I have a very very good chance of landing and releasing that fish. We both get to go home and tell our story. We both win. And we both get a workout.

Love braid, never going back to mono.
