I have had them at theaters back when my taste buds were fully working but now all I taste is vinegar.
Spicey and sour foods have been shown to have good health effects on the whole.
I used to eat a LOT of dill pickles; I miss the good old days.

Got to be a lot healthier than some of the other stuff people eat there..

That's not just a Texas thing. Of course we are pretty close to Texas. Only 18 miles as the crow flies for me.

True, pickles have plenty of salt... and that statement would be most valid if each person were limiting himself to only one..candy, soda, ice cream or other sweet.  I don't attend movies, but know about what the folks take in at the local drive-in theater.

Curiously, pickles are often kept on hand by blacksmiths, we like to call them "blacksmith's hotdogs".

I usually keep them on hand when I am demonstrating in particularly hot days...when sweat tends to leach salt out of the body with the sweat.

If I am demonstrating om a hot August day, an don't have a pickle or some Gatorade, my hands will do all kinds of crampy tricks...sometimes opening to where I can hardly hold the steering wheel to drive my way home.

Perhaps the pickles are a Texas custom, because some locations  in Texas can get warm...and Gatorade is a recent recipe.. ;)  ;D

JFG- I went and checked my cucumber
pickles and relishes and other commercial
pickled products.
No nitrates listed. Salt yes, but way down
in the middle or bottom of the list.
Nutritional information says
Sodium 5%, so that's a minimal concern.

Cucumber pickles have been sold as a
snack for way longer than I've been around.
( remember the old pickle barrel in the
stereotypical general store?)

Many years ago when there was a local
roller skating rink, they sold pickle juice
on ice just like they would a carbonated
cold drink.
Something that may dismay some.
In this part of the world, it's mostly
black kids and youngsters that buy
those XXL pickles and eat them like a
candy bar, moreso than white kids

Once again- EVERYTHING IN MODERATION

I don't imagine a pickle every now and
then hurts anybody or affects their health.
Not as much as those that gobble up a
pound of bacon and a half a dozen runny
eggs every morning followed with a pack
and a half of smokes and an 18 pack
by bedtime every day

Once more- moderation  ;)

Yes, not only did we blacksmith's use pickles, others who are inclined to sweat profusely while working, can use them too.  I have found that pickle juice stops muscle cramps quicker than any other method.

I have recommended it to friends troubled with night cramps...and it worked almost universally for them.

Suddenly, pro sports teams are using it.  They could have asked blacksmiths a hundred years ago... ;)  ;D

You can buy it...or just save it from your pickle jars..

Me at the movie theater. Make it milk duds. Made from milk coco beans and natural sugar. About as healthy as it gets ;) :D

Sheeee-eeeeeweeeee !

That stuff is 20% sodium. . .

I'll pass

Keep in mind, that stuff is not supposed to be drunk like Koolaid..it is only to be used when one is faced with exercise/heat caused dehydration.  One little 2.5 oz bottle should do the job.

BTW; have you noticed Ramen or those little styrofoam cups containing dried Chinese "noodle" foods, to which you add water and heat?   Check the sodium in those, for a shocker...

Many farmers still use "Switchel"..especially the Amish. It does work..

Here are some recipes, perhaps just in time for summer use...

What is green kombucha used for?

A couple years ago, a lady friend handed me a tub of IVL products food supplements, saying, "try this for health"..

I took the stuff, and put it in t e cupboard, thinking..."someday".  Last week I happened to notice it, and although It is now out-of-date, I am trying it..

I don't know if that is why, but I do seem to feel better already.  I believe I'll finish the one I have, and if it is beneficial, I may well try another..just to see...

  ..Just maybe...
