Anyone planning on buying a new vehicle?

   Well, you may or may not be able to do it!

   My son wants to buy a new vehicle, mostly for his business.  He started by looking for the new ford Maverick..

  He soon found out that none are available.  OK..so he makes a list, any of which would serve his needs well.

  The list included Ford Ranger, Hyundai Santa Cruz, Jeep wrangler and a couple others.  Surprise..almost none available, and the few that are,  are fetching ridiculous prices.

  Low mileage 1 or 2 year old vehicles are nearly new price.

  Problem seems to be an elusive "chip".  It seems the primary producer (in Japan) had factory burn down.  A couple limited producers (in Texas) had weather catastrophes.. so the chip is in very limited supply.

  Unless the vehicle you want, is on the lot..good luck!  ..And you will likely pay dearly.

Used vehicles have been very
expensive for quite a long time 
New car dealerships don't have
to legally warranty used vehicles
the same as a new vehicle, and
the few restrictions on financing
and expensive add ons are easier
to sell since there's little or no
conflict with a new car manufacturers
warranty, plus it's something to
tack on to the financing, thus
more money 
The last place I worked at came very
close to getting in trouble over their
franchise agreement because the
general manager was a big time
used car type and put more emphasis
on his used sales than the new
stock units,  and the lot floor plan
was arranged to suit him and his
preference for selling used stock.
His real desire was to turn the place
into one of those used car supercenters,
but the owner and the franchise agreement
and the manufacturers representatives
knocked him back into reality

Unless I have a wreck and total my current truck I don't really think I'll ever buy another vehicle.

I have a 2017 Toyota Tundra. It has barely over 11,000 miles on it after 4 and a half years of ownership. I drive at most 2,500 miles a year and baring some long out of state trip I don't see that changing.

I don't have enough years left in my life to wear this one out.

Matt keeps trying to talk me into buying a new truck and giving him this one. I gave him my 2011 Tundra with only around 12,000 on it. He now has around 200,000 on it.

   any vehicle that has the word new in front  of it is way beyond my buying power .  I ll keep patching up my 98 GMC Sierra as long as I can .

i heard ford has found some chips and is resuming production of at least the f150 so if he wants a ford they might come available soon.

My Acadia doesn't have enough miles on it to even be completely broken in and my old jeep is in excellent condition too. I don't see me ever buying another vehicle.

  Barring something unforseen, I am not about to change soon either.  I've had my 2015 Jeep Patriot for about 3 years, and run it from 25,000 miles to 47,000 miles, and have no complaints.
   My son's business van, a 2016 platinum Transit, now has about 150,000 on it and should perhaps be swapped.
 
    His photography business has him often going to remote locations to photograph and drone fly some very upscale  homes and vacation homes, in quite remote settings. Sometimes he has to fly undeveloped acreage also...

     And such locations can be especially challenging here in "snow belt" country, so he is leaning toward AWD in his next vehicle.

I usually get a new truck every three years but its two now and because of the price of lumber going through the roof on the building project i had to float a loan and it will be at least 3 more before a new truck is in the works. By then unless we get this country back all there will be is plug ins and in that case not until its dead on the side of the road.

about one of the overseas countries
going all electric by 2030 and banning
internal combustion totally.
I'd already put it in the " trash "
or I'd reference it.  I don't remember
what the article said concerning a
method of powering freight hauling
or agricultural equipment, but I
don't see an economical alternative
for those things. I don't see any
solar powered ag equipment in the
near future unless they can skip ahead
for a century's worth of research and
build a fusion powered tractor or something

   It appears that most media talking heads ate more concerned with "backing the party line", than entertaining any logical answers..

  ..Thus they are not worth listening to !
