A uique western NY oddity..

   When building the Erie Canal in 1855, the engineers decided to build the canal OVER the existing roadway.

   Here's a short video..you can get the big picture in less than a minute.  However, if you elect not to view the

   The land there is quite level,  because it follows a natural route.  Remember, much of the Erie canal, is the
 
   Mohawk River, but that is further east from this location.  ..Besides, the land levels off there on the Lake Ontario escarpment.

I remember reading about that sometime in the past. Just a thought: The jacked up, huge tired trucks some drive around here would not fit thru that tunnel.

  No, not likely, but back ni 1855... 7' 6" was likely enough, being as the tallest thing likely was a load of loose hay !

  Back in my silo building days, I built many a silo on farms around Medina..I may have driven under the canal, without even realizing it !
