Israel about to adopt a new battle rifle..
« on: May 23, 2021, 10:50:19 AM »
.
Israel about to replace the M4.  ..Not saying the M4 is bad, but the new rifle best fits THEIR needs. Besides, it is a "home grown" weapon, and I am sure it will work well for them.

I'm rather old-fashioned I guess, but the new Mattels and bull-pups are not for me !  ..But today's troops seem to adapt to the black rifles just fine.

I like a real conventional rifle, but part of that was my era in the military.  I started with the M1 Garand  with KD targets out to 500 yards, later went to M14 with "sneaky Petes" out to 550 meters (601 yards).

Firing was done with Iron sights, but I still managed to fire expert..  Perhaps why I tend to think the M14 is the best battle rifle ever.
I can't imagine trying to "fix bayonet" on a new bullpup.. ;) ;D

I could live with that rifle/bullpup. More compact, not giving up barrel length/velocity, same magazines and round.

Man I'm running way behind
What happened to the Galil ?
I shot one of those and it was
a cream puff. I'd have one now
if they hadn't cost so much even
back then.
Only other b.p. configuration rifle I ever
made smoke with was an AUG
It was an expensive cream puff too
Handled one of the Mossberg b.p.
shotguns, but never made smoke
with it

The Galil was sort of an AK knock off, and wasn't as accurate as the M4.

True, one need not sacrifice barrel length or magazine cap in a bullpup, but iron sights at anywhere near barrel level, is out of the question.

Which is why when I built some 10/22s, I never built a bullpup version.

...But as I said..I'm probably somewhat old fashioned.  ..And I still can't feature mounting a bayonet on a bullpup.  ;) ;D

They didn't have M4s back then
The US was still using iron sighted
A1s or A2s or whatever they were

Anyway the Galil I fondled was pretty
nice. Made in Sweden or somewhere
like that

Actually they were made in Israel by "Israeli  Military Industries".

The M4 is nuthin more than an A2 with a few little upgrades such as a forward assist for the bolt.

This one had Israel and another country
on the receiver, but it's been 30 some
odd years, so it's not exactly fresh anymore
Back then, all the m16s were iron sighted
with a carry handle as a part of the receiver
with a 20 some odd inch barrel instead
of the shorter later version. Thinner
lighter barrel. Overall lighter rifle
Been a long time . Slightly irrelevant now

Yeah, I had one of the old triangle forearm A1 rifles, Colt upper and lower, no forward assist, and later the A2 .

The only new (newer) ones that would
hold any interest for me are ones my
buddy and his youngest (adult) son
have for hunting with, a 7.62X39 and
a 6.8 something-or-other
They've both laid some nice animals
down with those.
I have a cousin that used to have one
of the old 80's Colt ARs that he used
when it was his one and only 35-40
years ago. He'd sit astraddle of a
tree limb and shoot em in the back
of the head from 15 feet away.
Never lost a one, but plenty of
people would boo hoo about
unethical head shots ( all the
while they were trying to make
those half mile hail mary shots)
