Harlow Wilcox and the Oakies
« on: August 02, 2021, 02:47:39 AM »
Anyone remember this band and their hit "Groovey Grubworm" from back in '69? It sold a million copies which was a big deal back then and went to #1 on one country hits chart. I am not savvy enough to post a link but it can be found on youtube.

They put out two albums that I know of and I bought both on 8 track. The second was titled "Cripple Cricket" I believe. I have the albums on my phone now and play them now and then.

How could you forget the name of the best instrumental rock band ever? I suppose it is because you seem to be much more into CW. All of the original band members have passes on except for Don Wilson and he quit touring in 2015. All replacements now.

Well you need to understand that that my computer is 87 plus years old and its memory recall is not what it used to be but then I also find that the ground has became much harder now than when I was 11. :) My favorite music is anything, any class that strikes a cord with me not just country. Even some country I don't care for.

I will try to jog your memory with another group, a southern rock style band from Amarillo, TX back in the seventies. They were pretty popular for a time, got in a lawsuit, and just quit. I used to listened to them on KOMA at night and my son bought their first album and tried to wear it out on my stereo.

One band that I really liked was the Desert Rose Band now nothing from them some of their stuff is on Youtube I will try and find and post something. Back in the sixties there was what they were calling Hoot nanny Lot of groups were featured Peter Paul and Mary, Glen Yarbrough, Kingston Trio, Brothers four, Cisco Houston and the Halifax three. Etc.

I used to watch that until CBS put up their big transmission tower and blew ABC right off the air for me. Back in those day I got NBC, ABC, and CBS of an antennae and that was it and I had to have a forty foot pole topped with a rotator with a five foot mast to get them. ABC was down at Monahans, TX  and the new CBS tower was about 25 miles away. The two channels were close together and I lost ABC when it started transmitting. Eventually ABC installed a tower on top of 10 mile hill east of Artesia, NM and I could get it but it was snowy and about 9 o'clock every night it just turned to snow with some shadows moving around. Until satellite TV arrived I was stuck with that but I could get the Midnight Special and I would stay up on Saturday nights and watch it.
