Pagones suffered through a great deal of negative public scrutiny.
He was ultimately vindicatec in 1988 when it was discoverd that Brawley had fabricated the entire story. In retrospect she was fined $185000 (of which she has paid 1%). Sharpton, who was her closest advisor, never apologized to Pagones.
