I believe you are right! The Blue Press book that they publish lists the parts at around $250

The 450 is basically a stripped down 550. It comes without the Auto prime & powder setup, auto eject system, and primer warning kit. You can upgrade to a 550,but it will cost you a little more in the long run to do it.
I was thinking 500AT when I posted this. Dillon still sells an upgrade for the 450 but you also need a frame change kit @ around $70. Total upgrade will run you close to $280! Unless you already have a 450,its a spendy way to go.

Dillon has not made the 450 press in over 25 years. It was discontuted when they brought out the 550 and is not up gradeable to the 550. What you are all thinking of is the AT 500 which is up gradeable to the 550.

No Catfish, you are mistaken. I am reading the current copy of the Blue Press which is circulated by Dillon Precision Products and it list's a 450 upgrade to the 550B on page 34. This has been offered ever since the 550B was first marketed.

yes, the upgrade is available. And it has not been over 25 years. I bought mine the first month they went factory direct. That was either late '82 or early '83. But as stated it's only about $50 cheaper to do the upgrade than ot buy the 550. I'd just buy it and then I'd have 2 set up. Hey, that's an idea.
