Hi Rich,
The Huntsman sights are obviously plastic and complaints of the front blade fiber-optic falling out was expressed. H&R is supposed to use a new Williams metal open sight on the new Sidekick's shortly after their introduction.
Some are awaiting their availability by either H&R or Williams Gun Sight Co., for purchase and replacement of the flimsy plastic ones. Williams reportedly will have them available in the next 4-6 wks for purchase.
Some are using the Williams "pep" receiver sight as comes with the Buffalo Classics and I am not sure of the front blade sight being used to complete this combo choice. Others with info on the use of this sight will have to chime in.
Only other thing I know to do is mount a scope, which you advised is not an option for your Alabama hunt area, or... a non-powered Red Dot type scope. I am strongly considering getting one of these,...as have been using one on my bow for the last 2-3 yrs and love it.
Great for the low light shots, and if you get the small (2-3)MOA dot and set at low power (usually 10 pwr settings) in dim light, the "dot" doesn't obscure your target view. They start as low as $35 for the 4-MOA (Simmons). I use the 33mm Pollington Pro on the bow,but the price was in the neighborhood of Cabella's Pine Ridge Red Dot's.
