Wow, those things have gone up in price. The newer ones are very nice though. Heck they are smarter than I am lol . Lots of new gadgets, which are nice but how long do they hold up?

The more gadgets you have on a
vehicle, the more possibilities for
failures.
Always has been that way,  but
these days people don't buy things
for the long haul so a lot of future
problems are never noticed

The new trucks are very nice with lots of features and conveniences but I don't think they will hold up in the long run. I have a 1966 Ford F100 that I have owned for over 32 years. It's been maintained in those 32 years and has been reliable. Yes I have done a few repairs over the years, a starter, brakes, clutch, tune ups and tires.

On the other hand I have a 2007 Toyota Sequoia that has been very reliable but the technology/computer/sensors are showing their age and the dollars to fix them are very high. Right now there is a sensor/emissions system problem that when it happens puts the vehicle in limp home mode and if I didn't have a scan tool to reset the computer would not be usable.

It's a trade off for those that hold on to their vehicles for years or decades versus those that don't.

In case one doesn't know,  modern
day vehicles, motorcycles, ATV'S,
outboards, etc. etc. etc. are built
for ease of assembly on the factory
line,  not for ease of service or for
longevity

I used to buy Linda a vehicle every year. A couple a times I bought 2 that year cause she decided she didn't like the  one she had.

In 2013 I took to Dallas and told her to pick out her last new car
Anything she wanted.
She picked out a middle of the road Honda Pilot.
I told the salesman to get the best one they had in that color, with leather interior.
It's got 73,000 miles on it, and I've replaced 1 windshield. Linda takes care of her cars, and this one should last as long as she's able to drive.

I've had 3 new pickups in 71 years. One i custom ordered.
The one i drive now looks new, but ain't, and I plan on it being my last one.
It's got power windows, mirrors, door locks, air carpet, and standard cab. That's it.
Classification is work truck, but it suits me.

Everything is overly digital. Yes it's impressive but I'm sure it's not going to last for 20 years without expensive
repairs. Heck some of those trucks cost as much as my house once did.

I ended up buying a 2020 F150. Very nice they gave me 3k for my old F150. Some fancy stuff but nothing like that ram had on it.

truth is even with all the electronics there a hell of alot more reliable and last 3 times as long as a truck from the 70s. Factor in cost of living and wages and there no more expenisve either. 10 times the truck for the same money as we shelled out in the 70s. twice the hp twice the mpg and motors that last 300k instead of 90k.

This F150 is nice without all the bling bling. It has a backup camera so that's a useful gadget to have. And the remote start button is another nice feature.

I heard on Tucker that Toyota was considering a monthly fee to activate the remote start feature.
I think they’re shooting themselves in the foot.

Not much reporting on this. Some automotive features may stop working when 3G goes away at the end of 2022.

Concerning truck prices and such. Inflation looks to be increasing with no end in sight. If looking for durable goods, buy now.

Thinking certain vehicles would get harder to find, bought a Colorado ZR2 last year at the start of Covid. Didn’t consider how fast prices would rise. Got lucky.

  I have a 2012 Chevy, lots of goodies in it.

  I have 254,000 miles on it, and everything in it works like it did when I bought it.  Nothing in it has been replaced. (dash or electrical)

  It HAS had good maintenance, plus brakes, tires, it's on second battery and two sensors have been replaced. (throttle position and oxygen)

  There's not even a lot of rust on it.

   Speaking of automotive stories, I feel obliged to relate a recent experience..
   In late 2011, i bought a new Kia Soul for my wife.  She didn't have it but a couple years, when she gave up driving.

  At that time our daughter-in-law needed somthing to replace her well worn Ford,  so we gave it to her.  She drove it for several years before passing it on to our grandaughter
 
   One reason I bought a  Kia, was because of their longer warranty.. 60,000 bumper to bumper and 100,000 drive .

      AT 99,000+ the transmission needed replacement..and I wondered..so close?

   Kia came through ...not a penny cost to her!  More recently the Soul needed a chip replacement on recall, so she took it to our closest Kia dealer..

  New/old story...the chip may not arrive for 30-60 days.  So what happens then ...?

  Son called national Kia service...they extended her warranty to 150,000 miles, so they could furnish a rental car for the time.

  Now, I don't know about you, but i have never heard of such a generous warranty .  Tells me where to go if I were in need of another car.
