New picture over the fireplace..
« on: February 21, 2022, 11:10:58 AM »
I have had the same picture over my fireplace for some months now, so I decided I wanted something new.
I recalled a photo my son took quite a few years ago..and realized I truly liked that photo.  not only for the composition and color, but how it spoke to me so personally.

In the foreground, It illustrates my love for country.. my country (USA) and how my heart is in THE country.
Not country like some rhinestone cowboy...who rides a mechanical bull, but one who lives and loves country life for whatever it is in his own area.  I don't wear spurs, because I haven't earned them..
I avoid going to any city as much as I possibly can..

This photo was taken about 3-4 miles from my house.

It also spoke to me a favorite verse..as I look into the distant hills..here partly concealed in snow and mist. Yet my road ahead is firmly pointed in that direction.

Alas, I realized it could not be enlarged to anywhere near a 24"X30" size or more, because it was snapped with the old film camera.

The verse...  " I lift up my eyes to the hills-- where does my help come from?
My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth."  (Psalm 121: 1,2)

Around here it would have a barb wire latch, something you handle carefully and they are still plentiful.

That is a nice picture IG, and it's shame it can't be blown up to the size you want.

It is amazing, what the digital revolution has done for the art of photography.  My son takes much of his photos and drone work in what is called 5K.. pixels.

With 5K, he can take a picture of a model across the room...then zero in down to a single eyelash...and have it come in clear.  i often work with him on "shoots"..and it is a learning experience.

Just for joy...  Here is a pic from a photo shoot for a winter sport clothing line, which he did last week..

This is one of his and my favorite models to work with..a sparkling, and fun personality..

...Meet Kristin..  Also Kristin in summer gear ..this may be at West Palm..but then, it could be Lake Erie ..

I was considering this photo which he took while i was helping him.  It is about 50miles south into Pennsylvania... an old farmhouse which some Amish partners remodeled and are renting out as an
Air B & B vacation rental.  ...nice twilight shot...but not exactly what I want.

It seems dark and gloomy to me. Just a little editing to lighten it could make a big difference. Not only is hi-def digital photography fantastic what can be done with photo editing is also. Someone that knows the in and out of photoshop or other editing software (not me by a long shot) can really work wonder with pictures. My son is pretty handy with a digital camera and photoshop. Me, I forget what I'm doing too quickly to ever get good at it and use a simple program that helps save or enhance some shots I take.

I rarely do much photography any more..
That pic was just one of perhaps hundreds of the same subject.  Plenty of daylight shots as well and many, many interiors.
The sky for that photo was a long exposure of the milky way..taken at a very lonely (and dark) crossroads. about 2 miles from home..

It has been several years since I have seen the Milkey Way. I would have to drive around 27 miles to hide below the cap to get away from the light pollution. I can barely see the North Star from my place.

Stars???

Ya mean they still exist? Not here, not anymore. At night I can look out my bedroom window and see at least 13 night lights and that's just looking in one direction. And I'm out in what passes as "country" around here.

..And to think..some folks who are city dwellers, very rarely get to see the stars.

Years ago before I retired,  and was living high on a hill with few houses around, a city dwelling co-worker stopped by my house, toward evening.

We had some hot dogs and refreshments, we sat at the picnic  bench conversing while the darkness came on.

My friend marvelled at the night sky..which looked much like the sky in the photo.  Within 6 months, he and his wife moved out to a small town in our area.
I can see most stars from my house..but to get a really great view..I have to get on a hill a mile or two from the village.

Just for your viewing pleasure..another shot of Kristin, taken at a ski resort in our county.

  "The eyes have it"..right?

Same problem for me.
