Any "Master Gardeners"?

I've been wondering about taking a Master Gardener course.  Since there are none in my area I was thinking about trying to find one on line.  Any ideas?

My wife is a Master Gardener. She went through a year long course at the local Botanical Gardens.
I don't know much about it, other than she does a lot of continuing education and is called on to volunteer for various things (which she enjoys).

More avocational than vocational.
I think the idea is they train some folks in the community to be master gardeners, word gets around that you are a master gardener, and friends come to you for advice.

Never knew there was such a thing.    I always considered my FIL a master gardener and he only had a 6th grade education, but he could raise the finest vegetables on the poorest, rockiest ground.  He would do things like taste the dirt and decide what to add to it from that.  Never used store bought chemicals.  He only used local sources of natural enrichment, but would vary from one time to the next which source to use.  Not sure such things can be taught, only learned.
