The martial tunes
« on: March 24, 2022, 06:06:26 AM »
  Not a big music fan, but beyond certain hymns, I like martial music.  I enjoy the anthems of all 5 branches of our military.
  Contrary to some, I enjoy the lyrics as much or more than the tune.  Here is one I particularly enjoy.
  ...And knowing the historical context of that land, makes the words even more profound..

Waltzing Matilda..love that song, and it conveys much of Australian culture and history.

  I have to admit though, I had to look up a 'translation' for some of the Aussie terminology..
Once I got the lingo..I enjoyed it that much more.

      In case you need it, here's a translation.

  Scottish music has it's roots deep into the Celtic tradition...and it would be hard to say this piece is not a beautiful work.  No lyrics, but most of us probably already know the lyrics anyway;

  Now, my grandson likes this band.  I don't get it, but that's OK....

I like bagpipes and drums. Amazing Grace as played by the Royal Scots Dragoon Band is one of my favorites.

Like IG's son, I like Clanadonia but wish the old fart in the middle with the huge drum would wear a shirt. He makes my eyes hurt about as bad as three ax handle wide gals in tights do.

  Yeah...I don't think his "shirtlessness" adds any charm to the ensemble.. :D ;D
