P.S. I hear NEF/H&R has discontinued production of their rifles in .357 magnum so this may be the only game in town for a new SS 357 mag rifle.  Again, my apologies.

Yes NEF has discontinued the .357 rifles and barrels.

Well then, it looks like I got mine in time.

Now that I have "Improved" it to 357Max all I have to do is find the $$ to get brass (and since the order will be going in, I might as well add a few other things....Like 8lb of powder, gas checks and a bullet mold) and then I can see how it shoots.

I have a NEF 357 mag that I maxed and I also purchased a Rossi 357 mag and maxed it at the same time. If anybody wants a Rossi 357 mag they better get it quick because Rossi is discontinueing it. They are still out there setting on the shelf. My gun shop called her dealer and got me one but they told her Rossi was dropping it. To bad I really like mine.

BIGBOREFAN: Can you give us a comparo review of the NEF vs Rossi in 357?  How does the quality, accuracy, and balance, and feel compare?  I know the Rossi action is proportionately smaller, and lighter so seems it would be a handier field gun.  If what you say is true concerning availability of the Rossi in 357 mag then Bud's Gun Shop may be the last source as this was the ONLY source that I could find that had a stock of these in .357 after a LONG search.

Ganjiro have not been able to shot both of them enough to realy compare accuracy yet. If weather gets better soon I hope to give everybody a report. I like the looks of the NEF better but I also have a Buffalo Classic stock and forearm on it. As for quality of actual material used the NEF is a better but not by a whole lot. The NEF is better over all but I like the barrel contour better on the Rossi, plus the Rossi uses the Contender scope mount. The Rossi is a good 2 pounds lighter and seems like it  balances and carries well. For actuall hunting I think the Rossi will be a better still hunting gun. When I hold the Rossi it feels to me like a Win M94 because of the light weight anf thin reciever. That said which would I choose, well that is a hard choice because I like both but giving the weight factor probally will carry the Rossi more. I like light weight guns and recoil is almost non-existant in either one. Which ever gun one gets they should diffently get a reamer and max it. With the 357 max I can push a 180 grain XTP at a little over 2000 FPS. Plus I can still shoot 357 mag thru it if I want.
