Dear Ann Landers---- :roll: I am ashamed to tell anyone that I love two barrels at the same time :oops: .----I have 6.5 JDJ's in both 10" and 14" barrels-----And they are beautiful----one is stainless and one is blue. They both have the same father.(JD, don't laugh!) :shock:  They  both love the same food (120gr Nosler Bt"s ), but they do not respond the same to my tender manipulations :( . I like the velocity of the 14 incher, but love the handeling characteristics of the shorter barrel. What should I do? Please help! keep them both.............in seperate rooms. Just be sure to spend equal time with each. Other wise jelaously will rear its ugly head.
or better yet I can hold on to the 14" for you til things settle down.

Hey, I'm in love with the taller one myself.  SSK chrome, 14", TSOB and all.  Now when I take her to the dance, I admit to flirting around some, with that little short 30Herret, 357Maxine, and that 309JDJ and of course that full figured 45-70(wow) and the new gal on my block, the 375Win.  BUT, when it comes time for the last dance, I remember who I came with.  Oh 6.5JDJ you sweet thang you.  Oh, I plum forgot about those 17 and 22 yr olds.  I fool around with them youngn's just a little bit too.
Fact of the matter is if my wife let me have only ONE barrel, it would be an easy decision...I'd just get a new WIFE.

Dear FiW,
A finger on the trigger is far different than, a ring on the finger. It's quite alright, too share your passion with many! I don't believe, " enjoy with moderation" applies in this case either.

Thanks for the advice fellas.  :-) After much soul searching, I have to admit I do favor the short one for her dark exotic looks and her racy ways :o She just responds so much more quickly to my touch than her icy looking sister. And I get excited looking into her deep blueing . :o Right now just thinking about it , my heart is pounding ,my palms are clammy ,and my cheeks are flushed. :shock: I have to take her to the range right NOW!!!!! :roll:      pg

Palgeno, I would really be interested in a comparison in the two barrels...velocity...trajectory...etc.  I never really considered getting a shorter barrel in this round.  Always thought a carbine length (18-20") barrel would be neat....bull barrel...fluted.  OH NO, here come those HOT flashes again!  Gotta go shoot something!

Hoppy--- I have not completely explored the differences between the two lengths----both like the 120 nosler bt----about 2450 with 33.7gr Varget with the long barrel and about 100fps less with the short one with the same load. I sight the short one in 1" high at 100 ---thats a zero at 140 and -1 at 170---plenty of range for "still huntin" in the woods. The long one I sight 3" high at 100 which results in a zero at 200 and  is -3"at 240----- I have  so far not needed to shoot at deer beyond 225 yd. I plan on loading some 85gr bullets in the short barrel for varmints. This should be a nice intermediate between my .223 and the 14' JDJ.   PG

My 14"er shoots the 85SierraHP and 100BT extremely accurate and like yours, the 120BT's or 120Speer.  I deer hunt w/ the 120 Speer from the beginning( because JD reccomended it ) and have never been let down yet.  IMR 4320 is the only powder I've tried.  Just never saw any need for anything else.  GOOD SHOOTIN', Walt  :grin:

The 6.5JDJ has been a great hunting caliber for me. I think it's at it's best with the 14" barrel despite the fact that  I hate 14" barrels because they're too long. I've decided to live with that fault and have quit thinking about using a shorter barrel in that particular caliber.  

Those 120 BT Noslers are really something, aren't they? Great bullets.

In my case, I only use it when shots are likely to be long or I am stalking a lot with the gun in my hand. In other words, I don't holster it. It's not a problem for me because of that.

Well I had a 14" blue that I was in love with, then along came a 21" SS and the rest as they say is history!  :lol:

2800 is easy with the right powder with a 120 and my barrel loves the 129SST at about 2700fps.

Long and lean is where it's at!
