WOW...What has become of the SBC..
« on: March 28, 2022, 10:43:44 AM »
I have heard some of you guys who have mentioned the slippage of the SBC (Southern Baptist Convention), and didn't think much about it until I saw a few current videos and discussions.

I don't see how they can grow or even continue, without having to turn, confess and repent of their mistakes, claiming the blood for salvation..
I guess most of the real Christians have left, just as thousands have already done..

    Sorry to see the slippage...

IG, I think to be accurate, its important to remember that the SBC ... the Convention ... does not have authority over the individual churches or their members, so while the woke celebrities are going one way, the average Southern Baptist remains pretty much the same. I think the national organization and structures have come unhinged from the people in the pew, and I suspect collapse over the horizon, which may be the best thing for them. The strength of the SBC has always been the Cooperative Program budget, but where's there is money there is bound to be problems and past attempts to reform were themselves corrupted by the $$. Full disclosure, I chose to switch my Chaplaincy Endorsement from the SBC some years back as the leadership was losing its charity; I've been endorsed by the Conservative Baptist Alliance since, and grateful for it.

Thank you TN, for the clarification.  I rather suspected and even hoped that would be the case.  So often, as we see also in certain governmental situations, the leadership are living in their own bubble, not fully understanding the rank & file who are out there in the trenches.

Is your Conservative Baptist Alliancein any way associated with the SBC, or is it a independent body?

BTW: Are you in AK yet?  If so, how are things going ?  I hope all is going well...

Conservative Baptists broke off from the Northern Baptists in the 1940s; you can guess why from the name, and never a part of the SBC. Out west if you come across a First Baptist, it was most likely started by Conservative Baptists.

As to the other part of your question, packers started today - house full of boxes, which I hope goes on a truck tomorrow.

And I can see why the Conservative Baptists moved way back in the 1940s.  I believe the northern Baptists have been called the American Baptists since then.  I see a similar situation in the Presbyterians..PCUSA (liberal)  and the "Bible Presbyterians" (conservative)

Best wishes for your assignment in Alaska..

A lot of churches in my home area that were labeled "First Baptist" (my home church included) along with numerous others that were SBC affiliated went the way of the "New message" the SBC was pushing. The Rick Warren "Purpose Driven Life" crap ect. Successfully killed some smaller churches,  and caused some mass exoduses in larger churches such as mine.
Richard Land and his agenda did a lot of damage.

It is truly sad, what has happened with these false teachers, who are often not more than money hounds..and you mentioned a couple beauties..

I am grateful to God, that we have some good local churches in my area.  My own church is in a growth spurt at the present..and that is also gratifying, since so many are declining.

They can keep their "meg churches"..as far as I am concerned.  If any of their members loses a
mother, wife, child or brother to Covid, what are the chances that Rick Warren or Joel Osteen will arrive at their home to comfort them, ...say nothing about presiding at their funeral?
