Emergency Bag

Anyone decide to put some things
in a bag for an emergency  ?
I know many say that they don't
need anything, but I saw more
than a few around here that no
longer have a choice of staying
in their home because they no
longer have a home after the
storms went through here.
One of my relatives just barely
missed being homeless by a
few hundred yards. We've spoken
about having things in a bag and
ready to go JIC, but I don't know
if the lesson ever took. It might
have now after the near miss
they experienced

I do keep a bag. Actually it always turns into several bags, but mostly I focus on travel in the car. My wife can't walk much over a couple of hundred feet, if that. So I take what I'd want in a shelter. Stuff like soap, towel and washcloth, meds, couple of days change of clothes, toothbrush and toothpaste, etc. And food for the dog. The shelter might feed us, but probably not the dog.

I dont plan on leaving my house so my "bug out bag" that is really a "bug back bag" i keep in every  vehicle. It is pretty much two guns couple hundred rounds of ammo loaded in magazines and a knife. With that i can get by till i find my way back home.

Lloyd, I agree with your concept, here on Mt Hood evacuation seems most likely because of 1. Forest Fire, 2. Flood (Sandy River), or 3. Volcano (Mt Hood) in that order. If it's civil disturbance in Portland or elsewhere we'll just stay put and ride it out like you are planning. Everyone's situation is bound to be different so each plan needs to be tailored to local conditions.

I used to keep a "bugout bag" but with our age, physical conditions, and the area we now live I don't. There are heavy coats in the vehicles for winter, and extra magazines always for insurance.

Our focus has mainly been on what we call a recovery bag in our vehicles. Jumper cables, hand tools, fix a flat, bottled water, first aid kit and other odd and ends along with spare ammo.

Where we live now is where we would be bugging out to in the past so we'll be standing pat and not leaving.

There's some around here that don't have
a choice anymore because the tornadoes
took their homes.
Some a short way from a relative's house
had to leave during the wee hours last night
when a careless driver took out a gas pipe
station. Everybody within a mile got woke up
and ushered out and away
