I am certain that it took some time for Sodom and Gomorrah to descend into decadence and depravity, so great so, that God turned them into pillars of salt. We are talking about a small percentage of the population, granted the Bully Pulpit by the Liberal Left. As they perceive themselves achieving greater and greater Political influence, they take liberties, such as "in your face" advertising and "flaunting showmanship", to promote their agenda.
There is deep dam of resentment growing that is independent of the "Politically Correct". At some point, that dam is going to break and spill its contents across this land. Sodom and Gomorrah will be revisited in its wake.
