New to me 270
« on: May 12, 2021, 03:10:23 AM »
1969 Remington 760 BDL Deluxe in .270. Been looking for one of these for a while now, and this one popped up not a mile from my house.  8) Have the 308 and 06 and wanted the .270 to complete the set.

If you notice in the pic, the flip up scope cover on the rear is secured with electrical tape.  :o The gun was priced REALLY right and in an honest 90% condition. I noticed the tape, but did not even look through the scope. When I got home I removed the tape and the scope cover. I was surprised to find the scope was a Bausch and Lomb Balvar 8B with a cool tapered crosshair and a dot in the center. Apparently a fairly pricey scope in its day. The gun also has a B&L base. Not sure if the rings are B&L or not.

The B&L set up is not my cup of tea, but I almost hate to replace it as I suspect it's probably been on the gun for quite some time.

Really nice

Anything other than 30/06 and 243
in the Remington pumps and autos
is fairly scarce in this area.
My buddy had a 270 for a long time,
and somebody stacked the bills too
high and it went away. He's had the
re-re's ever since naturally.
I've also never witnessed or experienced
all the difficulties that the Remington
haters talk about
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

Seems 9 out of 10 around here are 30-06. I don't see alot of them selling at today's crazy asking prices

I bought a 760 BDL in 270 about 2 years ago from a local gun store just because it was in the same 90 % condition and priced very low and it had the basket weave style checkering.  Being I shoot left handed the cheek piece didn’t do much for me and Idid shoot it some and was surprised at the good accuracy with a friends reloads. Just like a lot of guns I buy when I get a “ can’t believe the low price “ I decided to put it on gunbroker to see what the market was on this gun and it sold for almost 2 1/2 times what I paid for it at a gun store ?
Apparently the 270 is a harder to find caliber because the same guns in 30-06 were selling for considerably less on gunbroker.

I think if I ever find a 760 carbine in 35 Rem. at a reasonable price I will buy it for keeps.

There's a member here that has one. I think my $1500 offer offended him and I'm not sure he loves me anymore.  ;D ;D ;D

This will be season #37 for my 760 in 6mm. Lot of good memories with that old gun.

still kick myself. My first bolt action i bought was right after i got out of the service. A guy i worked with was getting divorced and had to sell some guns. he had two 6mms a rem 700 classic and a 760. he wanted a 150 for the 700 and 125 for the 760. Money was tight so i passed on the 760. Id love to have it today. That would have been 40 years ago so right about the same time you started wacking deer with your 6 so did I.

That's too cool Lloyd. Bought mine new at a small shop that was going out of business. $140 out the door. I had just graduated from high school, and wasn't making much more than $140 a week. I've shot 100g factory Remington Core-Lokt's in it from day 1. I can only guess, but I'd say I've killed real close to 100 deer with that gun.

ive loaded for that classic for near 45 years. I dont think theres a bullet that hasnt been tried in it. I gave it to my dad for a couple years till he retired and i got him his dream gun a blr 308. Its been kind of the camp gun for years. I chuckle at your corelock use. First ammo i tried in it was 100 corelocks and they shot just under an inch and in all those years of wasting components even the best loads barely beat that. So it goes to camp every year sighted in with some corelocks and most years someone grabs it and uses it. probably shot a dump truck full of deer through the years and probably 75 percent of those with factory corelocks. Its the only factory ammo ive shot a deer with since i was 19 years old.

2 years ago I bought 600 - 100 grain 243 Core-lokt bullets for .10 each. They have been really accurate with IMR 4350 in every 243/6mm I've tried them in.

Sweet 270, congratulations! I think that would be a great moose/caribou gun in bear country.
