He also wrote The Martian Chronicles. I have the television series on DVD. The colonist watched as the Earth destroyed  itself. They were all that was left of Humanity. The Martians accepted them and let them live. There was some kind of a time warp involved between us both. They had their time and we had our time. Some kind of a strange Parallel to each other. Like the Martian said ( a planet of ghost ).
