They're at it again. . .

Thieves are back at stealing wire
in this area and are stripping down
phone lines and some power lines
and leaving people without phone
service and in some cases without
power. They're also going in empty
homes and businesses and stripping
the wiring out

Need severe punishment for
thievery, and to stop enabling and
making excuses

I might be off a little here but I think the scrapyards here in Georgia take your name and address from your drivers license.
I heard that it cut down on catalytic converters be stolen.

This is the way it works in many places now, as it should be, it gives investigators a lead to see if the sellers sourced the material legally.  If you have a source, say electricians, or home builders, garage, collecting the leftovers, then you should have no issue providing your info to the scrapyard.

All the scrap buyers in this
area have required ID as long
as I've been aware

My neighbor who sells scrap says the yards here keep track of who they bought from.
