  Too often we hear people claim that Custer's 7th Cavalry was "wiped out" at battle of the Little Big Horn.

  That is quite far from the truth and you won't hear historians saying that !  I think that is just uninformed folks tossing words around.
   Accounts say Custer was leading between 600 and 700 troops.  The body led by Custer himself, was wiped out, along with some further away being under Major Reno, but actually LED by Capt Benteen.

  The total killed that day was 268 troops.  A major defeat of course, but far from a wipe out. being less than 50%..
