Halloween

What a waste of time and effort. I don't own any horror movies, and don't intend to.  Don’t believe in spooks.

it was enjoyable as a child and even seven or eight years ago I enjoyed sitting out side with a fire or two going to see who showed up, at that, I was amazed at the age of some of the children.
I quit at 13, but a lot of them that came here were in later teens; as kids got older the number showing up petered out and the Chinese Virus killed it.

We are having the warmest Halloween in 20 years so I bough a dozen candy bars at the clearance place.
I have zero love for horror movies as they have gotten stupid, even for a stupid genre; used to be good vs. evil, and good won,  now it is evil that cannot be stopped.

I never went trick or treating as a kid ,  and we never bought any candy to give out , because we knew  no one was  going to drive that far  out in the  sticks .

We don't have that problem either. 30 years here and never a trick or treater. Its a dwindling fad. Folks are taking
their kids to those school spook houses. Its also safer that way.

Things are different out in the middle of nowhere then in the suburbs or city. If I lived in the sticks I’d run my kids to the suburbs to fill their pillow cases with candy. My kids had a great time and brought home 3 bag fulls apiece. In today’s world every smile is priceless...

Our kids are all grown up now and live in town.

Halloween is a highly celebrated day now. Used to be kids just dressed up one night and went door to door in their neighborhood. Now its a 3 day event. People decorate their houses with witches, ghosts and such. Adults dress up and go to parties. When I was a kid I never saw an adult dress up in a Halloween costume. Now it appears to be the norm.  Kind of says something about our culture now that Halloween is so highly celebrated.

Sadly, I think it has turned into more of an adult(?) event, rather than a kid thing..

I believe it has, or at least and equally important event for adults.

-Sadly, on Halloween evening (10/31), we had a tough accident inn the neighborhood..  I cannot provide any information as to the situation before the crash, so I won't try.
A truckload of teenagers were negotiating a rural road about 4 miles from my house, when they came upon a sharp curve in the
road..which they failed to negotiate, taking on a large tree instead.

All were casualties.....  seven injured, 1 DOA.  ..I was told that rescue workers had to fetch one of the "walking wounded' out of the woods, where he "went to seek help" !  He must have been dazed, since the accident happened nearly in front of the home of my friends, Bob & Linda, who were home at the time..being about 1:30 AM..

Sadly, it seems we tend to see these kind of- accidents whenever young people have reason to celebrate...such as high school
  graduation..

We didn't see one booger of any description this year. Our daughter has hosted Halloween for her and her husband's families for years but the kids have increased to where it had become a very loud madhouse and she declined to do it anymore starting this year. We had already said we we planned to stay home because of the noise and crowd. Her sister-in-law took over the duties and we were invited but declined and spent a peaceful night at home. The only part of Halloween we saw was pictures of "our" little spooks in their costumes.

we didnt have a single kid. We never have lots because we live on the end of a side road but we usually get 20 or so. Im guessing parents are just to afraid of what might end up in those bags. Sad for the kids. We can get into a religious discussion about Halloween but bottom line is it was fun when we were kids and todays kids need some fun more then even we did.

lots of other things have as well.
many many adults try to live vicariously
through their children.
years ago i had a friend whose first wife
put their young daughter through all these
little girl beauty pageants. it was obvious
that the kid really didn't give two hoots about
any of it, but momma more or less was
in those things instead of her young daughter.
same with a lot of kid's football, baseball, etc.

had one killed not too long ago during an
altercation at a peewee football game not
far from here. NFL or former NFL player involved
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

That’s why the Parents take the kids to a regulated school spook house.

We saw a knight in armor plastic costume at the school. I bet that was expensive.
