Federal 22 Punch

Been thinking about a Ruger LCP in 22 with Federal Punch. Ten rounds at  1070 fps out of a 2” barrel for a nice compact package

  Congrats on your decision...  I just bought a Walther P22Q..with laser.  After viewing the tests on gel, clothing etc, I think I will stay with CCI Velociters.
   Yes the flat nose is a benefit, since even at 1050 fps, there is still no mushrooming.  That, plus the nickel coating all round would be good for any rounds left loaded for months, but I doubt any of us will do that.

  Even in the short  barrel, the Velociters come in about 100 fps slower than the Punch...but it's running 40grains, instead of 29 grains.

  But still, it every man's choice..and I intend on running several different rounds before I finally settle.  Of course, I
 have to admit that I am a "CCI guy"..and appreciate especially their dependability..

They are cute little guns BUT and it's a huge big BUT I would not even consider a .22 LR for defense use. Just wouldn't do it, that's me, you do as you think best.

first all your liberal buddy's will condemn you for having that cute little pop gun . Second i agree with bill. I wont say id  never carry a 22. I carry one of the little North american arms revolvers when ANY GUN is better then no gun. My wife carrys one in her purse because she goes places guns arent allowed and its easy to hide. but i pray to God if i ever have to use a gun i have at least a 9mm on me. Even my 380s are usually only back up guns or wore in an ankle holster when i go for a walk with the dog. but lately my leg just wont let me do it. But if i was determined to carry something the size of an lcp it would definitely be a 380 loaded with gold dots.

  I think each has a different situation we are looking at.  Yes, I have a S&W 642, loaded with +P rounds, which I often carry, but I tend to think a .22 would serve as well.
     I don't live in a neighborhood where I only feel comfortable carrying full time.  Frankly, I believe I can get off
  10@ rounds from my Walther as quickly as 2 rounds from my S&W.. and by the nature of recoil, control etc., I
   believe those ten rounds would be more accurately placed.   ... I only speak for myself in that regard.

   I figure a couple hits by a .22, is better than a miss with a .44 mag..

  Further, under considered conditions... a laser could be faster on the mark and less detectable by an adversary,
 than the obvious "take aim" position with open sights on a larger caliber.

   Others likely won't agree..but that's what makes the world go round.

LOL, amen to that. I used to try and edgumacate folks on what they considered their life, and their families life to be worth. It was, and is, a waste of time. Plus I got tired of listening to the their off the wall combat strategy using a squirrel gun cartridge, in a cigarette lighter size pistol.

When I taught civilian self defense classes these little mouse pistols weren't allowed. My classes were for the serious only.

I hope I'm never in another shootin disagreement, but if I am, I hope my opponent is toten one of those little mouse pistols.

I was an nra instructor and we werent able to tell people what gun they had to bring. Matter of fact id bet a good 50 percent of them showed up with a semi auto 22. even grown men. Mostly because they feared they couldnt qualify with there real carry gun. But truth be told the shooting part was so easy you could have about did it throwing rocks. Only person i ever saw fail the course was a 20 some women that showed up with an alloy smith 357 snubby with full power loads. After she failed she borrowed a 22 from someone else and reshot and passed. The instructor i took the course from said it wasnt our job to fail people. It was our job to make sure they passed. I did have a number of people (mostly women) that contacted me before taking it and asked for some coaching and i gladly did it. I even had many show up with borrowed guns and asked for advice on what to buy after they qualified and helped them learn there gun after they passed the course. One of the girls i coached ended up as a sherrifs deputy and is now a sergeant. She had never shot a single round out of any gun before she showed up there. Ive always told our sherrif that any deputy that wanted practice ammo could come over and get it for free. She is one of the only ones through the years that took me up on it. A few others came over for ammo but mostly for plinking because they didnt want to buy it. But they admitted it and i had no problem giving them some. Only one i ever said no to was one deputy that kept comming over for 22 shells when they were hard to get. Found out he was just using them to let his kids shoot at camp. I had to cut him off. He had a wife that was a teacher, nicer home then mine a newer truck and a 26 foot boat. He could afford them as easily as me.

I never required full power loads, target loads were fine, and quality firearms, no Saturday night specials.

My go to ammo for my TX22 is CCI Mini mags. Very reliable, and Reliability is #1.And it's usually available. For up close and personal home defense, I find my 38 special with hand loaded WC's usually find it's way to my bed side more often than any other gun. And it's slips into a pocket for a quick trip out to check on the chickens or other critters at night if something is causing a ruckus. This dry summer here in southern Or. with all the fires around me are forcing more wildlife closer to human habitat. A Woman south of me was attacked by a Black Bear just the other day. I don't want to run into one of them at night with just a 22 pistol in hand.
