.30-30 Ackley Improved?
« on: March 12, 2004, 01:14:51 PM »
I am still looking to see if anyone has converted his or her .30-30 Handi to .30-30AI.   From what I have been reading it really makes the old .30-30 sit up and howl with out increasing chamber pressures.   It can use spire point bullets and having better velocity gives better down range performance without hurting your wallet or tearing off your shoulder.   In a pinch it will still fire factory .30-30 rounds with good accuracy too.   Lots of fire-forming loads won’t shoot well for accuracy.

Let me know what you think.

Most of those conversions have been on the Marlin forum.  You can use spire point bullets in it anyway, whether Ackley or not.

This guy sells his as what he calls the 300 BRM (Bench rest magnum).  I emailed him about it and his claim is that it is not an Ackley conversion but I doubt there is any difference.

Still looks like a nice 250yd deer cartridge.
God, Family, and guns, in that order!
