An aging Star. What movies was She in?
« on: June 11, 2022, 12:00:35 PM »
Born in April/June 1889 she looks her age but will still work when she can get it.  Very tall with well earned scars and a dark tan. On her belly is a "tattoo" that says "FOX" :) .  She is still fun to hold.  ---In my LGS is a  1884 Trapdoor Springfield  45/70.  SN #452947.  On the barrel between the rear sight and trap is stamped  "FOX STUDIO  172".  Last one like this I let get away. 1847 Walker used in "Lonesome Dove"  with papers. I was broke then and broke now  :'(.  She is out of my price range.  There has to be a data base some place to look up her credits. I have been down a few rabbit holes but have no idea where to start with this.  Any ideas? Thanks. Any better place to post this?

Didn’t John Wayne shoot one in a movie??
I can kinda picture him with his Cavalry hat and a trapdoor.

There's been lots and lots of
trapdoors in various movies
and television shows, a good
many with flintlock pieces grafted
on to serve as "davy crockett/
mountain man rifles "
There's one black and white
John Wayne movie where he's
some revolutionary war hero
type character and maybe
2 dozen of his cohorts are
standing around with trapdoors
dolled up as flintlocks that
he refers to as "longrifles"
quite a few times. IIRC Jed
Clampett had a trapdoor "flintlock "
at least a few times masquerading
as his "kentucky" rifle
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

Cavalry would have been a carbine. This is full length.  Trying to find Prop records from fox. Must be some record of what shows checked out what guns.  My dad worked the stage.Pyro and some guns.  Trying to teach Bob Hope the prop gun would not hurt him.  Showed Bob the ammo. Popped one in his own hand then popped Bob. Next take was good.

Billy.  ;D ;D What did you find? Shoot straight with me and I will PM you the info. Have first shot. I can't buy her.   Got this from another forum.  --     "Here is the Internet Movie Firearms Data Base page, lists all the movies, TV, and even video games that showed Springfields.

http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Trapdoor_Springfield_Rifle

There were 48 movies, only three made by Fox. Belle Starr, 1941, Randolph Scott and Jean Tierney. Love Me Tender, 1956, Elvis. Flaming Star, 1960, Elvis. I wouldn't trust the list to be complete, surely Fox made more than 3 westerns with Trapdoors? Maybe some fake Indian extra was waving that rifle around in the background of another movie.

When you find out, let us know. I picked up a D handle Bowie that was in one of the famous Civil War movies according to the certificate that came with it. Have watched the movie several times and never picked it out but could have been a busy part of the movie where you wouldn't notice. Still...

Thanks, I checked it out of the library and enjoyed it. I believe, however, that the trap door Springfield wasn't developed until after the Civil War was over and they had all those .58 cal. Springfields available for conversion to breach loading. The movie showed it being used before the end of the war.
