Severe hip pain.
« on: December 20, 2022, 04:18:46 AM »
It seems to have just up and happened, kept me up all night. And it really hurts, left side joint. I got out some old crutches i have. And i haven’t done anything to bring this on. May need to brake out the wheelchair from an old injury.

I feel for you. Sleeping in my recliner has helped some with mine but I am still waiting on the pain guy. I got a call last week telling me it shouldn't be much longer. Our local hospital is starting two new buildings for additional offices and doctors as the neurology and pain management departments have been overwhelmed. The word is out about how good this facility is plus it saves a long drive for many people.

I normally have a lot of hip pain and it moves from side to side but the last few days it has been my right knee hurting so bad I can barely stand it. Ain't it fun to get old? At least the pain let's ya know you are still alive.

it can come on fast. My first hip replacement was on the right and it had been hurting for 20 years. The left one was replaced and it came on fast. Like from zero to couldnt bear it in 6 months. Doc told me it had been bad for a long time to be as worn as it was but sometimes it doesnt show until it shifts just right or you move just right and it nails a nerve. He said what that shows is its just become worn enough to hit those nerves and it isnt going to fix itself. Not to worry though. hip replacement surgery isnt that bad. My knee and especially my ankle replacements were MUCH worse. My knee was over a year ago and its still sore. Hips were good to go and pain free in less then 6 months. Now im looking at one i really dread on the first of feb. There doing a second fusion of my spine and the first was when i was in my 20s and even then it was a mother @@@@@@! Maybe because it was my first major surgery and i had nothing to compare it too but im pretty certain it wont be a walk in the park at 66. But i will say this. Ive had enough surgeries in my life that they dont scare me. Ill be dammed if i would live using crutches or in pain every day because i feared a surgery. If they can help you let them cut.

the sciatic nerve can cause pain not only along the outside of your leg but in your knee and ankle and foot too if its bad. Probably with that is 99 percent of the time its caused by severe disc problems in your back and again about the only cure is the knife. Believe me. M sciatic nerves down both sides over the last 40 years are on a first name basis with me and ive talked to them about daily but they dont like the language i use. For years a couple mile walk every day helped keep them in line but anymore with age it just aggravates them. Doc even said with this fusion in feb that i shouldnt expect a lot of nerve relief because nerves are the slowest healing thing in your body and take decades to heal if ever. He said it will relieve the nerve pain that is new and prevent more in the future but dont expect to jog out of the operating room. So unless you catch it early and fix whats pinching it before it does permanent damage your going to be talking to yours daily too.

Get to an Orthopedic doctor as soon as you can.

I ignored my bad knee till it made walking miserable, then, I finally went to see an Orthopedic doctor, he fixed in one visit decades of misery, without surgery, and now my knee is as good as it was when I landscaped full time.

NO guarantees, but I found out doing nothing , fixes nothing.

Pain starting at the hip, is very often brought on by the sciatic nerve.  Besides visiting an orthopedist, I think I would try keeping one of these around..

My Sciatic nerve pain is at an all time high. I've heard about that leg brace thing. Has anyone actually had any experience using them with good results?

Sorry, I cannot comment, but use of the practice of accupressure seems logical..

Its all starting to go away on its own. Helped by ibuprofen. Not top notch, but slowly getting there.

If like many of we old timers, you are taking several meds, check to see that they are not fighting one another.

I had a medication I was taking up until about a year ago..and coincidentally, I had a couple episodes where an arm or leg was painful and useless when I woke in the morning.

Dropped that med and no problem since. About a month ago, Doc says try it again.  I tried it again, and in about 3 days, I woke up with the same crippling pain, where it was too painful to move my left arm. I blame that med now...

The sciatic nerve runs either through or along side of a muscle called the Piriformis. I had a massage once that relieved mine for a time. This muscle can constrict or press on the sciatic and cause pain. This is called Piriformis Syndrome. I do stretches periodically for mine, sometimes helps, sometimes doesn’t. Look into it.

Bending over and doing something bent over a lot has had me bent over a bit.like an old man. But my wife’s exercising routines are helping with that. I bent over backwards on a padded bench, it sounded like everything popped. Now i can stand up straight.  :)

Just got over the same thing, either sciatica, or pinched nerve left hand side. Left hip was replaced 10 years ago, usually the right one hurts some. All arthritis. Think mine flared up from driving a cab over truck for 6-7 hours. Had the seat adjusted to maximum weight, but I'd still bottom it out, I go 225-230, and had the seat adjusted to 285. Think when I go into work tomorrow, gonna tell the boss, gonna have to find a different monkey to drive that truck.

you have the real thing. Its caused by arthritis and all the massaging and acupuncturists  or chiropractors  in the world arent going to cure it and left alone does nothing but get worse.  You have to remove the arthritis or remove the arthritic bone that is putting pressure on the nerve. My wife will complain and claim she has sciatic nerve pain but in reality she has a sore leg or the nerve might be bit inflamed because she over did it. Real sciatic pain doesnt magically disappear in is much rougher then a sore leg. My buddy whos surgery list dwarfs mine always says if your pain isnt so bad that your not willing to have surgery to fix it take a couple aspirin and hike up your skirt because you dont know what real pain is. Ive seen him barely make it outside to his range thats right outside the door. Start shooting and puke because of the pain. wipe his face and start shooting again. Sad thing with him is hes had MANY surgeries and the doctors even at mayos say theres nothing more that can be done. He gets so bad he can barely talk. But ive yet to hear him complain even once. Toughest sob ive ever met in my life. Think about getting hit in the back of the head with a baseball bat 3 times then getting up and sitting down with the family at supper and forcing a smile to your face or getting shot in the leg right before you run a 7 mile marathon. As much problems and surgerys ive had im still embarrased to even bring up my pain to him because hed be dancing a gig and back on his horse or harley on my worse day.
