Pennysaver
« on: February 17, 2023, 03:03:05 AM »
Just as with many communities I have a local newsprint type weekly advertising paper. Here it is called the "Pennysaver"..

Of course except  for a couple grocery store fold-ins, most ads today are carried by other sources, so the Pennysaver has turned into a local newspaper or gossip paper of sorts..containing sports , local schools and the obituaries..

It's getting to the point where the only reason I open the Pennysaver anymore..is to see if my photo is in there... ;D

We used to also have a "Pennysaver" back in the day. The one we still get is called the "Guide". It has recipies, tons of adds for local businesses, upcoming auctions, & a local supermarket insert. Nothing really in the way of news, just local happenings and advertisements.

We used to have two different ones but I think the internet did away with them as I haven't seen either or the container stands they used in quite a few years.

We used to have two daily newspapers and now one has become a three a week printing dealing strictly with local things and the other has become a five day a week deal that takes in a little wider area. Print media is going the way of the dinosaurs.

Print media going... true, but sad..

A friend took me to visit a nearby well known Christian college a few years ago.  The campus also hosts a K-12 school.
As his friend, the principal guided us through the library, he mentioned that they were about to cancel all their periodicals.
He added that the students were just not using them anymore.  Standing there by the magazine rack, I could see
that all the magazines in the rack looked new and pristine.

Used to take the daily newspaper and
several monthly magazines, but the
price kept escalating and the service
kept getting worse, combined with the
extremely poor USPS service nowadays
it's hardly worth it
