I been looking the buttstock over on my Huntsman and it looks like it is the same one that is on the Tracker 2. According to H&R these are specifically designed for the open sights. Heck it don't even look as big as the one on my Pardner is.
Am I gonna have to change the buttstock out to say a monte or at least a straight handi to be able to see thru my scope when it's mounted with the luepold 55870 rings?

Not necessarily, I have Weaver See Thru's on mine so I can untilize both the rifled sites and scope...the standard stock the Hutsman came with works just fine...Of course you have to take my word for it 'cause the deer it's downed ain't talkin'.... MTNMAN :)

You don't have to but you could change the stock.  Now that H&R is offering Huntsman forends in the laminate stock format you could opt for a laminate Monte Carlo stock and forearm..It would make the Huntsman look pretty good.  I wouldn't mind doing this some day...But, if I were you I would just adjust my shooting form to accomodate the lower stock.  Much cheaper that way and like MTNMAN says, the deer don't know the difference and they ain't talkin'.

I put one of those shell carriers on mine and then cut wedges of foam
(plastic hard, but flexible), stuffed it under the non bullet side,until I got the right cheek height. Works great,
and feels better than the Monte Carlo on my MarkV. I do agree with the other posts, and have shot deer with the gun the way it came from the Mfg
My suggestion is convenience. Good hunters make things work...either way....

I think I've got it figured out. I could order the walnut Monte stock and put it on the Huntsman. Take the one off the Huntsman and put it on my sawed-off Pardner with the bead sights and then have a factory recoil pad  on the Pardner. Give the one off my Pardner to my grandson who has a youth 20 ga. Pardner and has outgrown the youth buttstock. Ok problem solved. Thanks for all the help.

P.S. I especially like the laminate idea, might try that when funds allow for it.

:D, Hey Lik2hunt how are you? Not to confuse the issue this is what I have found. I can shoot either open sights or scopes with a regular non-MonteCarlo stock, in fact I seem to prefer it for my particular build and the way I hold my head when I shoot. HOWEVER, with a Monte-Carlo stock the only sighting system you can use is a scope because the raised cheekpiece does just what is is supposed to, it raises your eye up to line up with scope, it therefore is impossible to shoot open sights with a Monte-Carlo stock...you cannot lower your head/eyes enough to use the sights...hope this does not confuse the issue....<><.... :grin:

MSP - You are correct. After a trip to the range with scope mounted and with the regular stock I didn't even notice any difference from my Ultra which I was firing the same day. Thanks for saving me some $$$.

Another idea is to keep the straight stock and order a lace-on cheekpiece from Cabela's.

Here is one on my Huntsman:



That is a 1/4" high; they have 1/2" and 3/4" as well. With no more effort than taking off the scope, you can unlace the cheekpiece...

I did add a screw through the bottom of the leather to keep it from sliding on the stock.
