MEC universal load bar?
« on: March 10, 2004, 09:22:24 PM »
I have just recently purchased a universal load bar, so I can use different powders, shot weight s etc., without having to buy a wack of bushings.

How do users of these find they are for throwing consistant shot weights? Once I get it dialed in for 1oz, should it throw that without having to re-adjust regularly?

 Thanks! :-)

I check mine every time I start a reloading session.  The shot side generally is not a problem, but the first powder drop after the bar has been in the locked position is invariably heavy.  Also, consistent, smooth operation of the press promotes consistent charges.  I use either a Precision powder bottle that has internal baffles, or the MEC bottle with the MultiScale baffle that came with my adjustable charge bars.

Thanks for the replys!

I look forward to giving it a try. I have never tried the 1oz loads before.

As far as powder drops, I find that as I use so many different powders for loading, and to have all the needed bushings, as well as problems with poor weight drops, I have resorted to using my RCBS powder thrower for charging the shells. As I have a single stage loader, and I am not in a big hurry to get the shells done, I find this solves the problem. I charge 50 sized, and primed shells at a time, (checking the drop weight every so often), then I run the shells through the wad/shot insertion, and on to the crimp stages. I can do 3 shells at one time for every pull of the handle. One shell is in the final crimp, one in the pre-crimp, one getting the wad/shot insertion. Works very well.
