Why so wide (& any options)
« on: March 08, 2004, 11:53:09 AM »
Looking for some advice from folks who've been there.  I've got a nice Bianchi holster for my .44 Ruger Vaquero.  It's supposed to go on a 1-3/4-inch belt ... which is supposedly about max size to go through jeans belt loops.  I'm looking for a holster/belt rig the can be "worn", without need for a separate belt (that is, NOT a gunslinger setup).  However, I'd like to add bullet loops (somehow) and all gunbelts with bullet loops seems to be VERY wide.  Is there really a need for them to be so wide?  Alternatively, does anyone know of a belt-slide bullet holder (.44) that would fit on a 1-3/4-inch belt?  Thanks in advance to the experts. Peter F.

I am not sure, as I have only made cartridge slides, not a whole belt, but I would say it is the weight of 25 cartridges or so that dictates the width.  I have not seen a cartridge belt that was not ~2", I think the width helps distribute the weigh of the cartridges , meaning the belt does not try and fold in on itself.  You might be able to buy a belt and trim a little of the top and bottom to fit, that would keep the holders centered.  Maybe see if you can find one that has the cartridge loops separated in groups of 5 or 6.
