7mmTCU to 7-30 Waters
« on: March 17, 2004, 01:18:07 PM »
I lust for a 7-30 Waters barrels but can't seem to find a good one. 7mm TCU's are all over the place and fairly cheap.  Can one of them be rechambered successfully to 7-30?  About how much should it cost?

Thanks for the help.

Check with "Ed's Contenders". He's one of the sponsors on the site . I got a good deal from him a couple years ago.  8)

I would check EDS TC or Rons TC for a new barrel. That should be an easy rechamber to do if you decide to do one instead of getting a new barrel.SSK will do itfor 75$ plus shipping I believe and their turnaround time is around a week.I was checking into a rechamber job for the last barrel I got but then found a good buy from ed.That 7tcu barrl is really nice to have I have one and they really shoot well IT might be one to keep.My buddy swears by the7-30 and I just jumped on the 30-30 Ackley bandwagon GOOD SHOOTING  >>BEAGLER

My vote is to call Ed.  He will square you away with a good tube at a good cost.  And you will have the 7mm TCU also.

A 7tcu is a good candidate for rechamber to 7-30.  Unfortunately it would probably cost more than a new barrel by the time you were done unless the barrel came cheap.  If it did it may have problems, rough bore is one I've seen on a few T/C barrels.  Off center chamber is another but the rechamber should fix that if the 'smith is competent.  I'd expect a rechamber to be from 50-75 bucks if they have the reamer but the shops vary greatly as to price.  I've heard someone say they were quoted $200 for an Encore rechamber but that seems more like an attempt to avoid the job to me.
