A & H Accu-Kleen Breechplug (Pat. Pending.)
1) First and foremost, the goal was to dramatically reduce both scope burning and action fouling. Also. As this is a slam-fore application, we designed in the .32 H & R Magnum rimmed case – easy to handle, no brass trimming required.
2) One of the original prototypes used a ½” SAE nut. We elected to use a 7/16” SAE nut to make the one-piece plug yet easier to remove for service. Additionally, the O ring is easy by comparison to remove—for range use, many will not need to use the O ring at all—extraction will be automatic, or extremely easy. For the field, you absolutely want the O ring in place to retain the brass primer carrier firmly against the breechplug for 100% ignition when the gun is handled in a hunting scenario.
3) We head spaced off the rim, not the end of the brass, to prohibit the possibility of brass deformation at the end—giving .32 H & R brass indefinite service life.
4) We designed in an expansion chamber / Venturi tunnel at the end of the brass, which gives us far faster effective locktime than the standard A & H set-up.
5) Though loose powder is suggested for working up optimum loads in a specific gun, Pyrodex pellets can be used. The perimeter ring at the breechplug face was designed in to eliminate potential pellet crushing.
6) The brass insert area is polished first outside, then inside, to help ensure smooth brass insertion / extraction.
CCI #400 small bore rifle primers have given excellent results, as have Winchester # 6-1/2 small bore rifle primers. For extreme situations you may wish to opt for the more powerful CCI #450 primers—though testing has indicated that is not necessary down to zero degree temperatures. CCI #550 small bore magnum pistol primers also work well in place of the CCI #400, though the #400 primers are the primary choice. No other primers have been extensively and successfully tested, and are therefore not recommended. Also, standard pistol primers have not given reliable results.
