Youth Hunting Day
« on: October 23, 2004, 09:34:30 AM »
Today was Youth Waterfowl Day in Oklahoma.  Basically that means, kids under 16 can hunt but adults can't.

I took my two boys out to give them their first time to hunt with a gun.  It was a good morning for them, as I have not seen so many ducks in years.  Plus it was only about 55-60 degrees.

My 8 and 9 year old had a good time.  We ended up with three Wood Ducks, which in itself is a miracle with the way they shoot. :-D

More importantly than getting three ducks, we created some good memories with my boys, myself and my father in the marsh.  I hope it plants a seed for them to go more often.  We will see.

Very nice Specklebelly I'm glad your boys got ducks and most of all you all had fun.

Good job and hope to hear more waterfowl reports from ya all.

Youth hunts are great.  I've taken a kid and his dad or grandfather 3 of the last 4 years on a ranch near Marysville.  Last Jan. the kid shot over 3 boxes of shells at ducks (no farther than 30 yds) and got 4 and his first honker.
