Warne Encore scope rings
« on: March 16, 2004, 05:50:36 PM »
I have an Encore rifle with a factory 26" heavy barrel. I plan to us a T/C weaver style base and a Redfield Illuminator 6-20 x 50mm scope. I was wondering if anyone knew what height Warne rings I would need to use. I want to keep the scope as close to the barrel as possible. Could I get away with medium rings or do I need to go with high rings? If anyone has had any experience with this type setup, please let me know.

Warne rings weigh a lot and are expensive. I'd recommend the medium Burris Zee rings instead.

They are geat but heavy which is not necessarly a bad thing. I have them on a 350 mag and really like them. My objective is a 42mm and they are plenty high with med rings and a VV base. The thing that you must watch on an encore is the hammer. Rings need to be high enough to clear the hammer. You might call Warne and ask them.

I have Warne medium height rings on my Encore ML barrel.  I have enough room between my scope w/ a 40mm objective to just clear the rear sight.  I'm guessing you would have enough room for you objective also.  Medium height rings keep the scope in good alignment with your eye when the gun is shouldered and allows for a good thumb and a quarter of space between the eyepiece and the hammer to cock it.

dunno if you can see the spacing real well in this pic, but it gives you an idea . . .

On the Warne web site you can down load their catalog where they have a table showing all of the heights.  They also sell the rings there at a reasonable price.  I think these are the best rings commercially available at the moment.  I put stainless rings on my 375 H&H Encore Handgun rig attached to a 6 screw VVCG stainless steel base - don't think it will be comming loose any time soon.

Big Gun - I just ordered the exact same combo for my 209x50 (only I got matte blue rings).  Did you have to do any ring lapping or did they line up okay right out of the box?
