44 mag barrel

Hey guys. What purpose does the screw in choke serve on a 44 mag barrel? Can bullets be shot thru the choke or does it have to come out and does this affect accuracy? Also, how do I identify the lug style on my 45 colt barrel? Thanks for the info.

TC used to make 44 "Hot Shot" capsules and cartridges.  They had a plastic capsule filled with lead shot and were equivalent to a 2 1/2" 410 shotgun load.  The choke was to stop the spin of the capsule and improve the pattern.  Yes, you must remove the choke before firing bullets.
