7mm shooters
« on: March 21, 2004, 09:04:05 AM »
Whaa,  I am full of questions today, but inquisitive minds gotta know.   I shoot 150 gn Noslers out of my 7mm Rem.  In the Nosler listings load density is very low for most all of their powder suggestions.  One of my favorite loads (which is their most accurate load listed) is 61gns of IMR 4831 which shoots 3020fps and has a 78% load density.  Infact, their highest load density for this bullet range is only 87%.  I understand alittle  about pressures etc... but what could this do to bullet consistency?  I shoot moa with this load and it worked great last fall for antelope hunting (although all of this shooting was on relatively level round), but I hate to hear my powder swishing in the case when I shake a loaded cartridge.  I thought about going up to 160 gn bullets, but the load densities are even lower.  It kind of drives me nuts.

Hi LW,
Try RL 25, Retumbo, or H-1000. If you can't find data, get in contact with me.

Listen to onesonek, sounds likw what I would have suggested.

Go to the powder makers website for load data.

I use IMR 4831 with Nosler 160gr. partitions. YOu can hear the powder when you shake the cartridge also.

But, that combo consistently shoots 1/2-3/4 inch groups at 100yds.

They way I see it, if you are happy with the groups and velocity, Don't fix what ain't broken.
