Fixin To Dump DirecTV
« on: May 14, 2023, 07:05:50 AM »
Found out last night that a $50.00 Walmart antenna will hit all the local Amarillo channels, and we already have Firestick.
Save me about a 100 bucks a month.

We finally got broadband here (rural area) about 2 years ago.  Dumped Dish and started streaming.  Monthly television costs dropped by about $70 a month and I get even more entertainment and broadband connections for computer and smart phone.  Don't miss Dish one bit.

My neighbor did that, and I'm fixing to go get the antenna now.

sucks here in the sticks. all we get on antenna is pbs. cant even pick up the commy local alphabet channels. honestlt 90 percent of tv here is fox news in the day time and netflicks or amazon at night. i could probably dump tv but have a package with internet through the cable company and if i dumped it the 100 bucks i saved would be cut in half with a raise in my internet

Fixin' to...Fixin' to?

After decades of rising cost and monthly abuse making them keep their contract promises, I dumped Direct TV in 2017, have saved over $100 per month since, and have never looked back.  I get 67 broadcast antenna channels, albeit 25 of those are Communist Propaganda-(news), religion, or foreign language.  The Smart TV provides 50 additional Samsung Channels, many of which are quite good, frequently watched, and picks up anything dialed in from wireless Wifi (YouTube, Netflix, the Internet, etc.).

The TV does have the World's most atrocious keyboard though. I have found nothing to adapt a keyboard interface other than the handheld remote, which stinks...

If you are STILL on a pay-for-view cable network, you are ALSO paying for the non-stop barrage of print advertisement I get trying to convince me (never going to happen) to buy cable.  I went deaf in 2017 to that Siren's Song.  I figure they OWE ME a few yers worth of FREE cable TV and even THAT would not get me to run cable into my house ever again.

Don't have cable or satellite either one
Way too expensive
Some door to door salespeople came by
the other day selling internet and satellite
despite the NO SOLICITATION sign
next to the doorbell
No sense at all anymore
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

Hook it up indoors and try it there first. TV airwaves don't care about struture, except metals. You may not have to afix it to an outside wall or roof.

Mine is upstairs, sitting on top of a bookshelf, and inside, after a roof replacement. There has been zero change in reception relocated from its previous outdoor location.

...But hills and mountains will interfere though.. ;) :D  I tried one of those once..but I got no reception.
On the other hand, where I  lived 25 years ago, I was on a higher elevation, about 12-14 miles north of here, I had an old fashioned
    antenna, mounted outdoors.

With just that antenna, I could get all the local stations, and even several from Canada, coming across Lake Ontario, and then 60-70
miles across land to my house.

I guess that was because from my elevation, the descent was gradual to the Lake Ontario shore..

I can get a bunch of channels with an antenna, (I have one up) but I like what I get on sat. so much better that I choose to pay for sat..

Like my wife says, we don't drink, smoke, do drugs or go to other venues in the cities, so why not just spend the money on TV that we like.

Where I'm at are a lot of canyons, but I'm not in one.
