I was in my favorite firearm emporium today and I spyed a brace (english term for 2) of NEF rifles on the rack chambered for .243 Win. They were fitted with youth (12" pull) stocks and 22" barrels. Is their asking price, $239.00 ea, too much for them? I see one as a base for other barrels.... Gee this gets addictive

. I do not know if they are new or used (quite possibly used).

Those are NEW prices so if they are used it's too much. Unless there is a scioe on them. You didn't mention that.

Wal Mart sells them for just under $200 and most dealers sell them for about $200-220. If they are used, check the S# with NEF to see if they qualify for other barrels BEFORE you buy.

If they have 22" barrels, it sounds like the youth stock was added later. I THINK the youth guns were 20" barrels. Check the NEF site to make sure.

If used guns and in excellent condition, and the S# is the newer models SB-2, I'd go about $175 top.

Thanks for your reply. I know that wally world would have them cheaper but I did not know how much. Well these guys have a hell of a mark-up but they are a "full service" gunshop (one that after you buy a firearm will not escort you to the door like an unwelcome guest about to start a brawl).

You think Wally World is bad, try buying a rifle from Academy down in your neck of the woods if you don't have an actual address. We all have address that are Route # and Box # (some day we will have "911" address).

My friend and I went there to buy a Remington 710. He filled out all the paper work and showed his drivers license with his RR # and Box# on it. They refused to sell it to him without a physical address. My friend asked him to hold it so his dad could come down and buy it. We were told that we should not have said that because now they could not sell it to his dad because they knew he would give it to his son. We are not talking about a M60 or 50 cal machine, it was a bolt action hunting rifle.

There are times that Wally World does not seem that bad (not many times but some).

Some people just can not understand a Rt # Box # I have have that problem buyinng things and they want ship UPS, I just tell them UPS driver knows where to del. Marv.
P.S. Just what is wrong with your Dad buying a rifle and giving to you?

That stupid law came about because one of the morons in the Columbine shootings got one of his guns from another moron that bought it at a gun show and gave it to the first moron. :grin: Did I clear that up?

I in fact have bought firearms at Academy nearest to my house, and yes it is almost as bad, but for me the folks at the gun counter knows me from getting ammo and possibles gear not to mention my hunting/fishing licences there in the past few years. I guess the friendiest sales personel would have to be at Collectors (also the highest mark-up) followed by the original Carters County (the one with range), then Bailey's and Oshmans. Their are other smaller shops around "Spaced" City that will give you the shirt of their back in hopes of a sale, but sadly they are a dying breed

We went to Carter Country (off some feeway(I am new to Texas) the same day we went to Academy. I guess we did not fit the profile of their average customer. We were going to work on deer stands after our trip to the big city :-) , so we had on work boots, jeans and pocket tees, not slacks and polo shirts, all though I did fill their parking lot that was designed for BMW's and such with my 03 Avalanche, that should have counted for something. To say that we were treated less than friendly would be an under statement. Plus they have new gun prices on VERY used guns.

I must say that at Academy, if you ask a question, they know the answer, as apposed to Wall World where the standard answer is " I don't know, this is all we have" and since deer season is over the gun section has all but disappeared in favor of fishing. Don't get me wrong, I love to fish but I also love to shoot also.
I guess I better get off my soap box and stop boring everyone. I just wish we had a ma and pa gun shop around here.

I think I know which Carter's you went to. I think those guys are Wally World rejects....

. I went to it once to buy BP supplies and all they had was gear for Knight Inlines :shock: . I shoot a pair of traditional cap locks. My only guess is it is the farther from the main store (and Bill Carter, the owner) and those guys make up their own customer service manners

Its nice to hear that someone still shoots the old fashioned charcoal burners. I have not shot mine in years, it was hard to find a place to shoot in S. Calif without wearing a helmet and flack vest :-). I guess that is part of the reason I like Texas so much. I can just go on by back porch and have at it.
