site slow ?? and member question
« on: March 23, 2004, 05:31:30 AM »
Is this site really slow for anyone else?  I've tried alot of different sites and this is the only that's dragging, sometimes sitting for minutes loading.

Also, what does it mean when a member has nothing listed next to his name in the member list, no start date, last post date, etc?

I sent 22khornet a pm about hunting and I pulled up his info to see if he listed an email and most of his info is blank, and I noticed no bubble next to his name in old posts.

The site has been running slow for me too. I was about to ask the same question on another forum. At least I know it's not just my computer.
Can't help you with the member info you ask about though.

The site seems to be working fine now.

GB or one of the other moderators, do you know what 22khornet's status is?   :?   Did he deregister or something?  That little bugger!

Looks like nipprdog is in the same status now.  His name shows up in the directory but no other information.  And he just posted something a few days ago on 10ga's new 30-06 thread.

Are these guys leaving or is there a problem with the new software???

Good question Scruffy, at the top of each thread there is a note from Matt asking that we advise him of any problems we encounter, he would be the one to direct these inquirys to. If we cannot locate a line to him perhaps we should just advise Mr GB and let him notify Matt....<><....

Thanks!!!  I just opened a topic in the forum q/a forum at the bottom of this site.  GB or Matt should see it soon.

I have those memories on the old site of when people got locked out and we'd notice their absense and it took the admin to reset them so they could log back in.  Kind of like being locked out of your house with people inside and having to call a lock smith to let you in....  :?

gotta love the internet....

edit: ooops, maybe I should have opened it in H&R/Marlin forum problems.  This place is sooo big, I love it!  8)

Sorry, been a little busy finishing up a couple of projects while starting some new ones.     As for dropping some yotes we will have to work on that in about 3 weeks, 3 staight weeks of birthdays    oh my poor wallet    Anyway I called H&R and they still have some 357 barrels left :)  :yeah:  so I am going to send the handi off this week.  I guess I will just have to drag out the old 7 mag to go yote busting with, skins are worthless this time of year anyway   .  By the way there is a gun show is DM the weekend of the 17th I was thinking of going to.

Actually if the site is slow for you I have to think it is your connection thru to us and not the server. It is moving faster now on the current server than it ever has and we've been on several different servers over the years. Even on my poor quality satellite service it is fast. On Matt's Cable modem it is instanteous, you push the button and it is just there immediately.

As to the status of the two you asked about, I see one has now checked in. Both are still members in good standing and apparently just haven't been posting. As to why no info on profile I have no clue.

Three weeks huh?  I'll check with the wifes schedule for me...     She's working the weekend of the 3rd (nights) at the hospitol so I have to be quiet around the place.  No tractors withen 100 yards of the house, no chain saws withen 300 yards from the house, no hunting period...  I need to get a bow, should have got it when I was still single... hint hint  .  So anyway I usually go hunting the weekends she works (one a month) so maybe the next weekend she works.  We'll also have to work around turkey season.

Hey, you a turkey hunter?  Want to be?  I have an extra Remington 870 supermag, 3 boxes of shell, a couple different turkey chokes although the ported ventilator patterned the best, extra vest, extra calls, extra cammo, etc etc.  The key to successful turkey hunting is taking your coyote call with you.  When the turkeys don't respond switch calls and you're coyote hunting.  Or do what I've done and check for holes in your eye lids for 30 minutes and then try the turkeys again.  8)

I have someone I'm hunting with 2nd season some of the days, but I don't think he's going 4th season.  I'm not sure I am either, depends if I fill my tag 2nd season or not and the weather.  Last year I think I went out 14 times 4th season (season is like 20 days long) and I was rained on 10 of those times...

GB, thanks for the help.  Not a big deal on being slow, it seems to be working fine today.

Why the heck do you guys live so far away? The turkeys around here taste just as good it's just a little wetter and colder in this neck of the woods. Oh well, someday when I grow up (according to my wife) I may be able to hunt the "middle" of the country....<><....  You know we really never "grow Up", I met a friend tonight I have not seen in a couple of years, he is another retired Trooper/Lt. I met him at what else, a wake. As you get older it seems you go to a lot of wakes and funerals. The wake was for a retired S/Sgt we both knew. My fellow retired retired Trooper/Lt  bought a Harley last fall and is going to Ecuador to go mountain climbing in June, but then again he always was a glutton for punishment, marathons, "running" the Presidential Range, a winter climb of Mt. Katadin, you know, all the fun stuff. Why Butchie must be at least 60 now, been retired 10 years and working full time that entire 10 years of retirement, it just don't get any better than that!!! My wife watched us talk and reminisce and I am sure she knows that no matter how old we get, we will never "grow up". Thanks God, I kind of like it this way....<><....

I told my wife the saying "girls mature earlier than boys" is an ugly myth.  In all honesty, boys never mature...  :)

Hey hornet, is that gunshow in April?  If you want to meet there let me know.  I don't really need anything, but I rarely leave without buying some little something.

Hey Scruffy I would like to think I am a turkey hunter but since I have never gotten one I guess I am still practicing     I usually go down to the farm at Afton to hunt with my dad and brother.  We have some good timber/pasture area's that are loaded with turkey's.

I checked and the gun show is in April not sure what day I will get to go but mabye we will be able to get together and get something that we don't really need.

Sounds good, I'll send you a PM when it gets closer to show time.  It's not looking good though.  That weekend is getting pretty busy.  Turkey hunting, wife wanting some cousins over for dinner Saturday night, it's looking like Friday night might be my only time to go.  And since that's still two weeks off it's not out of the question that something will come up to take that night also.....  :?

Good luck on the birds.  I haven't gotten one either.  Last year my "hunting buddy" (wife's cousin) wouldn't sit still (6'6", 275lbs.  commercial steel construction worker - no fat).  I had shots at two toms on the same day while he crawling around and I had no idea where he was.  At one point I looked over to where my buddy was supposed to be set up and there was a silent tom pecking his vest that he'd left behind on his seat....  Only 15 yards away.  With no idea where my hunting buddy was all I could do was watch.

The other tom came right out in front of me around 10 yards, strutting, gobbling.  I'd scratch the slate, he'd gobble gobble gobble.  Scratch the slate again, gobble gobble gobble.  Then a spine shivver shot right down my back with the realization that my hunting buddy, crawling around looking for a turkey, was hearing the gobbling and was probably headed back towards me, or was already in range, might see the turkey, might shoot the turkey, and I might get hit also.  I whipped my box call (didn't want to risk loosing my slate call...) at the tom and I rolled over flat on the ground.  The tom took off, confused and excited.

That was 30 minutes before dark.  Right at dark I hear my buddy walking back to his seat...

"Did you see anything??" he asks.  "Where were you?" I responded.  He had crawled all the way down, crossed a creek, and watched a tom go to roost a couple hundred yards away (on property we couldn't hunt...)  He never even heard the turkey close to me gobbling.

"Why didn't you shoot?"  he then asked....  Ah ya.  My 30+ year old buddy is now in Scruffy's Hunting Safeties class.  If he's going to hunt, and teach his 4 year old at some point, he needs to learn how himself.  And I'm going to try to keep from getting killed in the process....

scruffy
