My wife and I took off for the mountains this past weekend. We went to the area around Dalanagea (sp?) where the first gold rush in the U.S. occurred in 1833. They still have an exibition gold mine there and places all over where you can pan for gold.
I bought my son a small pan and paid $26 for a sack of sand. Maybe he'll find something. The experience was well worth the education anyway. Has anyone here ever tried jumping off into a stream with a pan in this area before?

   Thanks,

The Gold Prospectors Association of America has a camp near there.  I have seen shows that in common operations (group outings) that people have done really well.  You might try to find them and see if you can pan there.  There are surly a lot of people there that can help you out and if you have kidss I am sure they will.  Most prospectors are really nice people except the SOB that took my sluice box one year.
