I know that turkeys have very. very good eye sight.
but how well can they smell and hear?

should We be using a cover scent when turkey hunting or how about bug spray would that keep them away?

Turkeys have very good eyesight and hearing but their sense of smell is less than that of humans. No cover scent is necessary. I've never worried about bug spray, I use a net camo mask and usually all my extremeties are otherwise covered by my camo clothes. Usually around here in both fall and spring season it's cool enough for me to wear at least a jacket. I only remember one time when it was so warm I needed to strip down to a tee shirt.

Same here...I only worry about the sight and hearing while I am turkey hunting...Never gave a second thought to their sense of smell.

I don't think turkeys can smell very well at all. The tom I shot last spring came out withing 10 yards of me while I was smoking. He had no clue I was there. As far as hearing I think they are very sensitive. Many times I use very suttle sounds to bring them in. Very light puts and purrs can be very effective. I vary rarely call loudly.

They see everything that moves on the ground.and I mean everything.Yhey hear just as well,but their of smell is almost non-exisitance.If a "turk" could smell as well as a whitetail........we would never kill one :lol: .........Rick "No Hesitation"
