Oneida Victor traps
« on: October 08, 2023, 12:30:49 AM »
I was talking with someone about traps and
trapping in general, and we talked some about
Victor traps. I have some assorted types of
various age, but they don't get used as much as
others I have. The rodent traps are used often
and I keep a couple of those set all the time.

It's looking to me like the Oneida Victor people
are probably gone out of business. The man
a few miles away that sells feed and related
goods no longer has any traps,  and the
couple of catalogs I recently received in the
mail were not optimistic about Oneida Victor.
The F&T book doesn't have a listing for them,
and the Cumberland's book has a few with
the bold type notation " We have not received
our Victor Trap orders for the last couple of
years.  . . " .
Can't help but wonder if they're on the way out
? ? ? ?

The Oneida community is a very interesting story.  They began as some kind of a religious commune in central NY State, supporting themselves through light manufacturing.  Perhaps Shakers or similar..

  Apparently the brand is still alive and well in Cleveland, but th eOneida mansion and graounds is a museum.  Interesting history, hoiwever;

I'm getting basically the same message from
vendors. They've had large orders of traps
from the Victor company for a year or more.
One says that Victor is shut down until the
price of steel gets lower.
I'm.    Not.    Thinking.  That'll.   Be.  Any.   Time.   Soon
I imagine they'll be in the same boat as
Sleepy Creek. A sunken boat

Oh well.. . . .

I don't really want any Victor brand in
particular, I do think it's a crying shame
that all those people that boo hooed
about American made traps and such
aren't buying any.
