  Two rocks is obvious..but these two rocks served a very important function..    They likely have stood like this for hundreds of years.

  Thanks for the replies guys...  there are some property line markers which are very similar..

   ANSWER;  There was originally, either a hedge, stone wall or some type fence that came up to the siides of these stones.

  These stones are called "squeeze stiles".. 

   They are meant to allow people through, but not cattle or horses. I can't feature them as preventing ingress or egress of sheep or goats, however.
