It sure would be good fishdaddy.  Good lures are like wine, they improve with age.  Light is the destroyer of lures so if kept from season to season in a dark place my lures are good for years.   Ace :-)

FishD as Asa said the lures get better with age, stored properly.... Putting a strip of clear tape over bottle label  helps keep it on bottle and you can identify it after a season... also wipe caps clean and take some vasoline and wipe inside cap to keep from rusting tight to bottle... you can keep lures in cool dark shed or if too warm there put  in old refrig or else bury in ground in water tite container if you so choose.

I have gallons of Coyote gland lure I made 15-16-17 years ago.
And also gallons of Bobcat in heat urine,  same age,          now...                 if stored in my attic all these years, is this stuff good?    It smells about the same as it did back then, but I am no Coyote.  What do you think?             My new hound Sandymay thinks it is interesting, and if,  as the information above suggests,  age is not that much of a problem, how much age?  I have a gallon of Floyd Mc beths coon lure, and it smells about as weird as it did back then too.      How old is old?????????/       Thank you

Jack the only way to find out  if the lure you have is any good is to  put it out in some test  sites..... let animals do the testing  to see if it is any good.... go to some sites where  the intended animals you are after  inhabit and rake a three foot circle smooth so you can see tracks or else do it in a sandy spot.  Put some of your lure on a dry stick or on a piece of cotton ball pinned down and see what works the circle around the scent item.... if you get  tracks of what you are after then it is still working..... I  have some of Herb Lenons Lure that is over 40 yrs old and still works but im keeping it as a collectable of my own...  I stuck a q-tip in it last yr and put out during summer and  fox and yotes came to it    Some trappers on this forum use Lenons lure to scent up thier trapping trucks by lavishly spreading it around inside of thier trucks  ( he has alot of cat money so he can do this  LOL).  Then the trapper has the gall to say canines  surrond his trapping vehicle and wont let him in it when  he went out checking his traps

As RdFx says, testing is the only way to be sure. However, i'll wager the glands will attract just as good as when they were fresh even though they may smell a little different to the human nose. Concerning the 40 year old Lenon lure that RdFx tested and still works, I had some experiences with that too.  About 10 years ago I had a big time Western ADC trapper testing some new lures for me.  I would label the test lure #1, 2, 3, etc.  Meantime I had a sporting goods store call to say they were cleaning off their shelves and found a bunch of lures they bought in 1956 and wondered if I would like them.  I said sure do.  I got the lures and they had turned to a black color and the consistency of tar.  I sent a bottle of it to the ADC trapper who was testing lures, not telling him what it was, just marked Test lure #?.  It wasn't long and the trapper reported that it was the most outstanding lure he ever tested and wanted a whole case of it at any price.  Ace

Well I never...RdFx there you go again sageratin things.  In fact I put a dogy door in the van and clubbed coyotes as they enterd on one side and threw the skinned carcasses out the window on other.  This worked for a while heck at places they'd be waiting on a log a whole lot like a bus stop.  Then they got shy.  So I side swiped a 200 yard section of guard rail for a bit of a change - up on my set (the loction changed daily) and presto chango here they come again.  A couple did "P" on the dogy door on the way in and while waiting in line on the tires...that just made the set into a scent post which worked well since I was using Asa's nature call.

All I wanted was for Asa to put a warning lable on his bottles as too the health risks for humans.  And I figure that the bottles must have a garantee and the lables must have had some value.  Now Asa on those lables you better advise elbow braces be warn to ward off joint pain from pulling skins.

Thanks Ya'll,   Today is Sunday so I will shake this stuff up good and put new lids {smeared with vasoline} on the gallon jars that they are in,
Label them and keep the {stuff} in the dark till next year.  Good trapping.
