recoils funny.
« on: January 14, 2024, 11:24:14 PM »
i just put together a 4.5in 45acp ar15. i also have a 9mm 5.5 in ar15. i was test firing the 45 for the first time and had my 9 out too. wife came out in the back yard to see whats up. i was kind of amazed how gentle the 45 was so i had her shoot both and she did it 3 times and i didnt tell here which was which and all 3 times she said the 45 kicked less. no doubt because the 9mm kind of cracks when its shot due to breaking the sound barrier vs the dull boom of the 45. ive always said that sound makes up at least 50% of perceived recoil. i said no more ars but my dealer is quitting selling guns so i picked up 2 more bare lowers. they were  suppose to go in the safe but sales drew me in and ones going to be an 8in 40sw and the other a 10.5 50 beowulf. all the parts are on the way here. i did sell one of my blackouts to the brother in law to help fund this. now if you dont like recoil your not going to like that 10.5 beo. my 16in rile feels about like a 12 guage shooting 3 inch shells and this one will be a GOOD lb lighter

Makes perfect sense. I would also think, weight of the bullet and powder choice would also make a difference.

both were handloads top end book loads using a 125 cast 9mm and a 200 cast 45. aa2 was used in both. keep in mind though that even a small ar like that wit a 30 round full mag probably weights more than 2 1911s

Do you have any pictures of the .45 version? Are you able to Chrono the load? I expect that the 4.5 incher will be similar to a 1911. What velocity are you expecting from your handloads?
What did you do for magazines?

i would guess they would mirror a 1911. nothing magic there to make them faster. i think that load was a 200 at 850. no chronographing till summer. id doubt a 45acp gains much even with a longer barrel. 40 im putting together is an 8.5. 40s are loaded to higher pressures and im guessing 40s out of it should run as fast as the same bullet out of my glock 20

for mags i bought a couple ets clear plastic 30s a couple kcis for cheap ones and i bought 4 of the kriss vector extensions that turn 13 round glocks into 30s. that is the set up that most say is best. so far ive ran a couple mags out of each and it hasnt missed a beat.surprised me because ive had hit and miss with ets and mostly misses with kci's. but then 2 mags doesnt save much. if i was going to use it for home defense id just use 13 round glocks. i have a half dozen of them for my glock 30
