SKS Puzzle
« on: March 25, 2004, 12:01:29 PM »
Have had an SKS for two weeks now and am puzzled by its failure to feed the last cartridge in the oem 10 round mag. Have cleaned it well.  Mag spring is properly taut.  All other cartridges from one to nine feed reliably.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Look at the pusher/feeder lever inside the mag with the gun assembled with the bolt open from above make sure this lever is centered when the gun mag is empty.  It maybe off to one side making it not come up as high as it should be leaving the round to miss the bolt carrier.  Anytime you have a problem feeding the last shot this alignment has been off center.  With shooting 10 shot full mags down to number 9 shot the mag feeder lips are in control its only with the last shot the pusher/lever influences wether it loads or just pops out.  In the past i had problems with the 20rd chinese fixed mag feeding too.

Thanks for your help!  You were right on the money. The pusher/feeder was off center.  I bent it slightly to align it and all works well now.  Unfortunately when I bent it, it cracked and now I a waiting for a new mag to arrive before it gives up the ghost.  Oh well.

Anyway, your insight solved the problem!

Thanks!
