Ruger 45ACP semi auto PCC
« on: January 22, 2024, 01:45:06 PM »
Just got a batch of emails/advertisements,
and I noticed the one for a new (?) Ruger
45ACP PCC
I don't remember seeing anything about
this particular one before, or seeing a
post here on GBOR .
I recall their homeowner, or home defender
or whatever it was, and the trouble that Dee
had with his particular one

Don't remember seeing this before.
Anybody seen it, or know anything
about it, or if it's reasonably priced
or stupid expensive, etc.? ?

i just put together a glock mag ar15 in 45 for 420 bucks. so far it runs like a top. i havent tried semi wad cutters in it and probably wont bother but it runs cast flat points and cast hps and xtp's perfectly. this one is a 4.5 in barrel and will make a great home defense/truck gun liked it so much i bought an 8" 40 upper from them. this ones going on a 556 lower with a glock mag well insert. only reason i went that way is i had a couple bare lowers. but you dont save any money doing it. or if you really want to get serious about home defense and dont have another house right next to yours i just put together a 10.5" 50 beowulf.

Not really looking for anything new
myself right now,  just curious as to
the mechanics and what they think
this new something is worth to the
consumer. My HD needs are covered
at the moment

This looks like an all new design
that's different than the PC Carbine
that was such a bust.
( I had in my head the Henry company
Homestead carbine for whatever reason)

Supposedly this new offering uses glock
magazines which might help it sell better,
but it'll have to function reliably, or they'll
end up with a bunch in the warehouse.

I never figured out why the R&D departments
at these manufacturers don't buy pallets of
cheap bs ammo to run through their firearms
for testing. Probably 90% of the consumers
will buy the cheapest that they can find for
the larger percentage of their shooting.

The PC i had took glock mags. I tried the one that çame with it and about 10 different GLOCK mags. It malfunctioned reliably on all mags. Ruger even sent me replacement ejectors and extractors. Nothing helped.

A lemon for sure

I haven't heard any talk from Ruger PC
Carbine owners since your episode, so
I'm speculating that there was probably
a tree full of lemons.
People usually brag online about their
new magazine dumping goody, but I
haven't heard anything

This newest model from Ruger
reminded me of the Hi Point
carbine that's been sold for years.
Never owned one, but I've shot
one and it was without malfunction
with the junkiest ammo as long as
the factory magazine was used.
If they had a larger capacity magazine
that was available and affordable,
they'd probably be a very popular
firearm. That said, what I shot was
paper plate accurate at 100, might have
been the cheesy ammo. Who knows.  .

one thing ive learned is if it takes glock mags buy GLOCK MAGS the aftermarket ones are cheaper but if you dont have trouble with them then you just dont shoot. ive got some from about all of them. other then pro mags there ok range mags. but ill trust my life only to a GLOCK mag. pro mags? if someone gave me 10 of them id toss them in the trash and save the ammo id use to find oyt each and every one of them are junk. especially the ones they make for glocks

I’ve got a pc carbine 9. I’ve only run 50 rounds through it so no real test but it functioned without a hitch using glock mags. I’ll have to run it good at a later date to see. My only complaint is it’s a might heavy for a 9.

Another firm that is hot on the .45, is Kris vector.  They were interested in hiring my grandson (via linkedin), when he left the Marine Corps.

The Kris line started witrh the .45 ACP..

How do they differ from others?  If yo notice the shape of the stock ahead of the trigger guard..there is a hint.  The bolt has a flex joint in the
middle, so any recoil is shared between backward and downward...making it easier to stay on target, negating the muzzle rise of a full automatic.

..But he went to work with weapons for NATO, and he is nearing his 20 year govt retirement.  Then he can open his own gunsmithing shop, if he
     chooses..

I heard Ruger PC 9mms don't have the feeding problems the 40 S&W have.

i use kriss vector mag extenions that turn 13 round 45acp glock mags into 30 round. there great quality bu id have to say the gun is even uglier than the ruger

The Hi Point is an ugly looking mess,
but it keeps on churning out the rounds.
So do their ugly handguns.

From what I've seen, the new ruger
is an odd looking duck as well, but
I don't know how reliable it might be.
Don't know of anybody that has actually
handled or seen one

ill say this about high points. they all run. i had a 40 i shot the crap out of for about ten years MANY thousands of rounds went through it MANY! i gave it to the neighbor boy and gave him a tall coffee can of ammo and i dont know how many times he came over and ran the 550 loading them back up. finally one day dad came over and said it was starting to misfeed and i looked at it and the feed ramps the bolt rode on were about gone. he sent it into highpoint and it came back fixed and they through 2 new mags in with it. ive contemplated picking up a 10mm carbine. if theyd wake up and make one that takes glock mags there would beone sitting here right now. but as it is i have so many different mags that i swore off any new gun that i dont have mags here that will run in it.   now there handgun. thats just to ugly to let in the house.

The Hi Point carbine is the most reliable
semi auto thing I've shot that the "experts "
said were junk besides the Remington 742
Four, and 7400's I've had that cycled and
shot with no problems
The bulk ammo that went through the
Hi Point was like 15 cents apiece (or less)
if I remember correctly.
I've shot lots of other people's firearms
that would stubbornly jam and double
feed and fail to extract with anything less
than premium quality ammunition.

Yeah, the magazine situation with the
Hi Point is what kept me from ever
seriously considering purchasing one.
The ugly factor is very much over rided
by the total reliability in all conditions
with whatever will fit in the chamber

Anyway, I was saying that ugly doesn't
bother me anymore as long as the animal
falls or the threat is repelled
A fully reliable firearm is a beautiful thing IMO

Yep, high point carbines run like a switch watch, glocks  also. I like my pc carbine and the American Flag. High point pistols and glocks are not comparable. 1911’s may be prettier and heavier, butt, they only hold 7...
