Encore 7mm-08 arrives in 8 weeks

 I'm happy to say that my new Encore 7mm-08 s.s arrived yesterday. It took exactly 8 weeks to the day for delivery.I picked it up and put it together and it seems like a good tight fitting barrel.Had heard alot of stories about loose hinges but mine seems ok.A general over inspection also seems ok.
Next is selecting a good scope for it.I was told that a good scope would be a Leopold 2-7.My 12 yo son will be using this gun for his first hunt this October so I still have plenty of time to get it together.
Does anyone use a youth stock for thier young hunters?I think this my be helpful for him?
Also what factory loads work well in this calibur?
Any feedbacks a greatly appreciated. Thanks Pa RR

I dont think you can go wrong with Federal Premiums. I have used them in all of my rifles, including my Encore 7m-08. I now reload, but the Premiums will do the trick. Hope he (and you) enjoy the rifle. I sure like mine.

I have a 22" 7mm-08 from Bullberry that shots like a dream with the federal premium 140 grain. The three deer that I shot here in Virginia had no complaints as well. Each were single shot kills. One was a 250 yard shot from a prone postion that dropped the deer in its tracks. Can not say enough good things about this caliber and the federal ammunition.

Hey guys the 7-08 your talking about is the 24" version from t/c or a custom job. If it is the 24' version how is the felt recoil from that barrel.

The felt recoil is pretty substantial. I was really quite surprised. So I put a Sims recoil pad on mine and now it is a joy . . . not a jolt to shoot. Of my 2 other medium calibers (308 and 7mm) I think the recoil was actually closer to the 7mm. Of course this is with the Encore synthetic stock not wood.
