Making Brass Question

Can you neck down a 308 case to a 6.5 Creedmore?  I think the 6.5 has a higher pressure rating?  Just curious.  I saw a 6.5 Upper for an AR-10 at a gun show for around $400.  Was told it used the same bolt as the 308.

Maybe, not sure. The powder holding part is shorter on the 6.5 than on the .308 and the neck is longer. BUT I think the overall case is a wee bit shorter on the 6.5 so the case should form to it OK. You want a strong press and plenty of lube to do such case forming but sure such is generally do able.

It's not as easy as just necking a case up or down when the case body is that much different.

a fud I guess in that I want to
be able to uncase whatever and
load it and shoot with total
confidence that it'll go bang
with predictable results and
accuracy.

i have taken 3006 down to 308 it does that time its not done in the blink of an eye . i do change 308 to 708 all the time

 You can neck the .308 down, but the 6.5 Creedmore actually has a little longer case. Won't make much difference in performance, but better check to see if they'll function in a gas gun. Something to mess with if you want. I've got an AR-10 in .308. Most of my loads are for 169gr. or up to 200gr. But I have a decent muzzle break that tames those loads down. If I load 147gr. for screwing around, recoil is pretty mild.
